Just back from another nice break in Carvoeiro , great weather, great food and wonderful people . What really gets on my nerves is the amount of dog crap on every pavement , surely can't be that hard to pick it up and bin it .

It is if you haven't got a dog.

the problem is not the responsible owners that walk their dogs, its the irresponsible owners that let their dogs rome the town.
About time they put up the "if your dog fowls the pathway, its a €1000 fine" signs...
additionally ALL dogs should be made to wear an ID tag, so you know who the owner is... and if you spot a dog doing it, with no owner/not on a lead etc... take a picture, get its number, and report them. send them a fine in the post -
100% they wont do it again !

Not just a town problem. Up by the water tower there are 'wild/un-owned' dogs and also in areas around the Gramacho golf course, can't concentrate on the views for watching the road and pavements for 'mess'.
Agree about fines, would give GNR another income source

There are wild/unowned dogs all around the area not just causing a mess but barking, howling and fighting through the night. I can only presume the people who feed them live in another part of town!
We live on a route to the cliffs (take care walking there DS all over the place) and the dog mess is awful. I have yet to see a dog owner with a bag - they just let their dogs crap wherever they like.

I find it very selfish & ignorant that people do not have the common decency to carry bags to pick up theirs dogs mess.

I love everything about Carvoeiro & surrounding area with the exception of the DS on the pavements etc. It seemed even worse on our visit this month, instead of admiring the views constantly watching your step. People need educating and perhaps more dog bins could be provided.

My Portuguese neighbour locks his dog in a cage in the garden at night so he barks if anyone comes near & then leaves it to roam the streets all day while he is at work. No collar or ID that I can tell and he leaves his "calling card" wherever he wishes except in the owners garden as he's locked out by day.

Agreed we thought it was really bad when we were over earlier this month.

I am one of those `thoughtful` dog owners and always carry dog poo bags, it makes me so cross when people do not pick up

We spent Christmas in Carvoeiro and had a fantastic time in beautiful weather but like others on the forum the problem of dog poo all over the pavement and worse still on the town beach is a real problem and such a shame it is blighting this lovely town. Unless the council find the time and resources to penalize the owners that do not clean up after their dogs, provide bins around the town then I am afraid the hapless, ignorant owners will continue to let this happen. It is also apparent that despite large signs stating that animals are not allowed on the beach, owners ignore this and take their dogs onto the beach and worse still fail to clean up after them. It is bad enough to see dog poo on the pavements but to see it on the beach is even worse and a real health hazard. To make this problem go away requires a proactive approach where stray dogs are impounded and owners fined for not keeping them under control. The problem has to be viewed as serious and acted upon if we are to see the situation improve. My gut feeling is that this is a vain hope!
