Went boat fishing last week with Luis from Algarve Boat Trips and had wonderful 5 hour session for 45 Euros which included gear, bait, licence and beer and rolls. We drifted for bass by the cliffs but they weren't hungry, then moored in various places and each caught around 20 good size black and red bream. Just me and him. Terrific fun and recommended. He also takes people up river to Silves. Here is his email:

Thanks for posting that info. Have been wanting to do that for a long time. Will give them a call when it warms up.
What bait was used for the Bass, I used to use Prawn in the Uk, when drifting or silver spinner when Trolling.
Did some beach fishing in Alvor estuary once with worms, caught a lot of Baby, non keeping Bass.
My mate caught a 11.5 lb Bass on Worm in the Portimao Harbour last year, fed twelve of us, brilliant.
Enjoy.

Used large white lures for bass fishing near the cliffs and prawn and squid for the bream.

The only two times I've ventured to sea from Portimao were disasters, first time was in a small boat and I went with longies on but no socks and I burnt my ankles I stayed with my feet in the pool at the Windmill Villa near the tennis club for two days. The second trip was a shark fishing venture and on that occasion I was seasick, It did help though we hadn't had a bite until I vomited over the side and then they had a good response. I think the seasick bout may have been something to do with the greasy hand filled sardine rolls served onboard for breakfast.

This was their smallest boat for 6 people I would say. They have a larger boat too.
