Whats in a name----

Post by Tabitha »

Being quite new to this forum Ive been looking at the various names here.
Of course I realise that many are 'nick names ' such as
falcon,eco/spider,big dick,tricky etc
whilst others seem the real thing such as Molly,Ellie,Maddi,Rod etc
so my question is-do you like your real name? or do you hate it,dislike it? would change it or have changed it?
Its very important I think, choosing a child's name, one they have to carry through life.
My own name Ive never been sure of.My mother chose it,she told me, from watching the tv series 'Bewitched'.
At school I had friends called Tracey -Lisa- Debbie and had mickey taking out of mine .They said it sounded Posh!
Of course its shortened mostly to Tabbi or Tabs-which I dont mind at all.But recently I met a man at work-from Portugal-and on asking my name he repeated it back to me as Tabeeta.I must say that I liked this very much.Sounded so different and dare I say it-sexier.
So are you happy with yours or not? and would somebody saying it differently -maybe with a nice accent-make you feel better about it?
This may sound trivia to some here-but Ill take that risk :)

Oh yes Tiko! Definitely !
sort of hot & spicey could be south American? Definitely not Sussex!
Apparently my Mum wanted to call me Linda, which is nice but dont think it would have suited me!
French grandmother was called Ellen and maternal grandma was Eleanor so hence 'Ellie'. :)

Hi Tabitha,

My real name is Denyce (spelt that way by my parents because they thought it was French!!). Like most children I really hated it, mostly because spelling it differently didn't take away from the fact that everybody still called me Denise and insisted that I'd spelt it wrong to attract attention! On meeting my husband (many years ago!) he started calling me Dee and it now everybody tends to call me by that name. Now, if anybody calls me Denyce i.e. my brother, it sounds very strange.

Quite a boring reply Tabitha, but thats my story!!

My mom was going to call me Luke (which she told me after we saw Star Wars so I was really disappointed that she hadn't) but I got stuck with Nick (Neeeeko in Portugal) which is cool too. The reason I chose a "handle" like falcon is just due to the fact that we need "usernames" for so many things on the web.

Is this what you are after Tabeeeeta ?

What gets me (on the subject of usernames) is when asked for a username on certain web sites I cannot use Dee because apparently this has "already been used"!(probably by me) Then I have to start thinking up a new name and consequently forget when visiting that particular site again.

What I hate is being called Debbie. And people assuming that because I'm a Deborah that its ok to call me Debbie.
Deb, Debs is fine. And you will find that if there's a Debs G on any other forum it is probably me too

I can never think of amusing user names. I must be boring :(

Gambrinus - I usually get that one when I apply for a username, except on some german sites, reason being that Gambrinus is a germanic parton saint of beer brewers and gastronomy :P

The real name is the french version of the portuguese name Renato and was chosen so that it could not be shortened - worked quite well untill I became friends with an english dude who proceeded to shorten my name to Ren....lazy sod :x

The job that I do with the media means that I have to do quite a bit of 'ducking and diving'. so years ago a collegue started calling me 'Tricky' (by name and by nature apparently). The nikname stuck, but may have to change because I actually called my cat the same name and she got run over a couple of months ago, and its a sad reminder everytime I log on!.
My new cat is called ' Rocky' so perhaps if you start seeing a new member with the same name - it could be me

I always fancied the name "Dawn" when I was young.Dont know why but it sounded glamorous to me !
However as I hate getting up early dont think that would have suited me either

Excuse me tricky but I am Rocky so please dont insinuate otherwise  Returning to the point of the thread, the reason I am known as Rocky is because I am big and hard

..like Tricky…my username is a nickname from work…..I spent most of my working life in Special Events / Corporate Hospitality…..I used to amaze colleagues with my ability to find the name of the person at a top city bank or law firm who held the 50,000 pound budget for this years Christmas party or who was in charge of this years jolly weekend away for 200 clients….
…as far as I know Ellie is the only one here who knows my real name…..and its one I like very much….couldn’t have asked for more….
