Hi all,
We are renting a villa in the Sesmarias area next month and I wonder if there are any gym facilities in the area that are available for casual use.
Or should we just sit around the pool and drink ourselves stupid?

Speaking as a 'couch potato' but having a love of the great outdoors... why would you want to visit such a beautiful part of the world and then spend time cooped up in a gym?
Walk along the beaches (run up and down them if you really want!)
Exercise can come in many wierd and wonderful ways... leave the gym at home and enjoy your holiday.

And if you do it all carrying a couple of multipacks of water in each hand, that should just about do it

If you really are feeling fit for a work out. You will find there is a gym right next to where you are staying, at Carvoeiro Club near the tennis courts. I should imagine anybody can walk in off the street and use the facilities (for a fee).

Have you been to Carvoeiro b4? I think you will find there is no need to go to the gym because it is quite hilly so I always return from holiday feeling as if I have stronger leg muscles at the end of it
Have a great time - I think you will find you wont need use of the gym especially with all the beautiful sunshine and scenery.

Hi hillwalker,
First time in Portugal!

Of course, I'd much rather get some exercise outside but if it gets too hot in the middle of the day then the gym is an option. Or maybe just a swim... or maybe another gnt.....choices, choices!

g'n't sounds good to me and if you have your own pool you can lie on you back on a lilo with a bowl of crisps on your tum, toes in the water - heaven
I am off in a little world of my own now . . .

You can always do that whole "pool olympics" thing with your own pool

There is both a U version and a 18 - but clearly only the U involves the whole family and is more about lilo races, bumper kids, water polo, etc
the other (eighteen or X) is a whole other thing
There are, of course, mutually exclusive

LOL I think we'll stick to the U version...

I go to the gym at Carvoeiro Tennis Club where all the serious athletes go (including the ex Portuguese Title holder). Loads of equipment there, two gyms. I don't think it costs much for tourists a few euro I expect.
