I’m staying in Carvoeiro for the first two weeks in August.

I’d like to play some golf, but I’m on my own as far as golf is concerned. Do any of the local golf courses fix you up with someone to play with? My handicap's 15.

Also are there any good teaching pros at the local courses?

Hi John,

If you book to play the courses in the early morning or late afternoon (when they are busiest), they will normally ensure that singletons are teamed up with a two ball to keep things moving - I have joined up with several delightful golfers from many different countries.

As far as pro's are concerned, I haven't tried them, but with the Leadbetter academy on your doorstep at Val da Pinta there ought to be some good teaching about.

I am also out in August, so you may even bump into me in one of the numerous bunkers on Gramacho

Thanks Graham, I didn't realise Leadbetter Golf accademy was there. I've wouldn't playing like Nick Faldo!

Hi John,

I forgot to mention - the reason the courses are busiest in early morning or late afternoon is it is almost suicidal to try to play in the temparatures that you will get around midday - take huge amounts of water (I can easily get through over a litre on a round), and a hat and sunscreen is a must - or look like this

(Try seeing what happens to your grip if you decide half way round to slap on the sun lotion - it makes for some interesting shots

)

Apart from England, I've only played in Ireland. The only problem there is remembering to dry your shoes and water proofs for the next day.
