Haunting Experience?

Post by Ellie »

My next short tale on the Corner, will be of our very first visit to "Castelo Silves".
For those who havent heard the castle is said to be haunted on just one night of the year. That being St Johns Day,June 24th. On that night,at the stroke of midnight, local folk say that the cries and sighs of a Moorish Princess are heard throughout the castle as she floats in beautiful silver barge, with golden oars,on the waters of the "Cistern of the Moor girl".That shes waits for her lover a Moorish Prince to rescue her and break spell she is under!
Has anyone ever experienced this haunting or knows of any who have spoken of it. Maybe somebody who lives nearby or who has visited the outskirts of the castle at that particular time?
I would be most interested to hear of such an experience.
Thank-you & Boa Tarde, Ellie.

I love stories like this Ellie and I can quite believe that she is still waiting for her Prince - I'm still waiting for mine

Hope someone posts a reply with the answer you are looking for. Maybe you could set up a topic of Haunting Tales which would be of great interest to many people like me

Haunting Experience?

Post by Blondelle »

Dear Guest,
I was just about to come off forum when I saw your reply --Ive only just posted this topic--so glad youre interested!
You wouldnt be the Guest that was also interested in the Star signs and UFOs as well,I suppose?
You obviously have an open and inquiring mind--excellent---have you any personal experience of ghosts or the like ?
I happen to think that places "hold onto" things that have happened --a bit like a video you might say--and that this is replayed now and then.
I would really love to hear of anyone experiencing the "Castelo Silves" haunting. Also Ive never had any response of our "haunting" in Lagoa!
Dont know about Portugal but its said that the England and Ireland are the most haunted places in the world--any Irish folk care to respond to this please?
Imsorry your Prince hasnt arrived yet Guest--but never give up hope--Im sure hes waiting there somewhere and yours will be a happy ending !
Look forward to yours& others replies, Ellie.
P.S Dont forget to keep a sharp look out for that certain someone Guest--and what better place to look than CVO!

Hi Ellie,
Yes, I'm the same person who has the open enquiring mind. I have yet to see a ghost but my sisters friend used to work in a very old pub and she used to clean the ashtrays at the end of the night and had witnessed a ghost (old Man) 'smoking' in there and so was used to ashtray being mysteriously filled up with ash when she returned next morning.

Also, I used to live in a very old house in a remote part of UK and had no neighbours next door and sometimes would walk into the house and smell cigarette smoke and my niece has witnessed her grandmother in her bedroom when she was younger and her mum has smelt her perfume. I like to believe our dear relatives look out for us when they are gone???
As for Prince Charming - he's there just wanting a better Princess
The ghost of Lagoa really intrigued me, wish I'd been there and hope someone responds soon. Best Wishes.

Ghosts

Post by Guest »

I've had an experience with the one of the best kind's of ghost!.
Year's ago, my husband and I were enjoying a romantic weekend away in the Lake District in a very old, very remote Inn. One night we were having dinner in the restaurant and were a bit disapointed when we realised we'd finished the bottle of wine. Whilst we waited for the waiter,
we went over to the window to look at the view. As it was late, everybody had left the restaurant and we were on our own. When we went back to the table our glasses were full- of the same wine. Nobody had come in,
and the bottle of wine was still empty where we left it... We were later told that there had been sightings of a particular female ghost for years.
That's got to be the best kind of Ghost - wish we could've brought her home with us....

I guessed that you were the guest with the enquiring mind on UFOS --star signs etc--very interesting story you tell---is the second "guest" also you may I ask ?
I dont know whether I can expect any answer to my question on the Silves Castle haunting as its only supposed to occur on that one particular night of June 24th.Unless a person decides to go close to the castle then and listen for the Princess's cries-------- but apparently local folk living nearby have heard the sounds---- there must be a mighty echoing system in those underground water systems----the other "Cisterna do caes"(cystern of the dogs ) is so deep it takes a stone at least 10 seconds to hit the water far below-this cystern is said to reach to the river Arade.
The Moors were finally defeated and driven fromSilves by the crusaders cutting off this water supply--it was "thirst" that had them capitulate!
Id love to find out more about that Princess --wouldnt you?
Im fascinated by medieval history particularly.
I wonder if there are any Portuguese people who come on this site who may know more of this tale? Boa noite,Ellie

Irish Ghost?

Post by josemac »

Irish Ghosts, don't know about the most haunted but a few years ago my father was walking to work about 5.30am and as you can imagine the streets were more or less empty. The road he took had no turn offs and was about 1/4 mile long, anyway half way down he looked up and an old man was right there in front of him and asked him if he would like to buy a coffin. The air turned blue as they say and my father thought it was an old tramp, that had been sleeping rough or something. He walked on a few paces and turned back to see where this old man was going as it was very strange to come accreoss anyone at that hour, but there was no sign of him. He went to work and forgot all about it. Later that evening at home he got a phone call telling him that his brother had died early that morning. The brothers had been very close all their lives. He nver saw the old man again.........................

This can go on a bit, so I will try to summarise where I can. When I was about 12, I was in my room listening to some tapes(as we did way back then) and I heard what I thought were routine noises. I was in my room, my sister in hers and parents downstairs. I heard the front door open, and then shut, the bolts going on and then footsteps coming upstairs. The steps went into the bathroom, the bathroom door shut, flush, door open, steps along the landing, parents bedroom door opened, and then shut. Nothing new there, it was Da going to bed, the usual lock-up routine, apart from one thing, I didn't hear the lightswitch. I usually could believe it or not(very thin walls). But I thought no more of it.
A while later I went downstairs, walked into the back room and Da was still ther so I just remarked that I thought he had gone to bed, he said he hadn't budged for ages and why did I think he was in bed, and as I was relaying why ym sister walked in and said more or less the same as me, so by this stage Da thought we were up to something. Ma confrimed that he had not gone from the room since the film started over an hour ago. I relayed what I heard, My sister agreed as she heard most of the same sounds so it was all a bit puzzling. We thought no more about it as it got into such a muddle with everyone putting their piece forward. The next night, the same thing happened again, but when I went downstairs and Da was still there I said " Very funny" hahahah or words to that effect. He didn't know what I was on about so I called my sister and she heard the sounds too. This is where we began to think something is not right here. My father then asked us exactly what we heard (he was interested now) and then regaled a story of eerie duplication that happened in the late 40's in his house at the time.(my grandparents house) I thought he's just made this one up now to frighten us so I decided to be clever and I rang my brother and asked him had he ever been told any spook stories. After a bit of whats all this about and the limited detail I gave him he told me the same story of what happened in the 40's.
As we could see a pattern emerging here we decided to wait for the next night and as soon as any sounds began we were going to take a look outside of our bedrooms. We waited and waited, nothing. But who was the visitor?
Tune in next week for episode 2

oohhhh -cant wait for next episode -next week? --that long?
I had strange experience some years back in my twenties as i remember---- i was at home alone one afternoon--so took advantage of practising piano--iwas playing all sorts of stuff old songs and new and was just on a jazzy piece --when---- suddenly i started playing an old song and itwas if my hands didnt belong to me--i looked down at them andthey seemed to be going on their own as disconnected to me --i then realised i was playing a song which my mumtold me had been my dads favourite ( he died when i was 9)--i didnt know this song to play--it was way before my time-yet i was playing it quite perfectly-I became so scared -that i held my hands quickly away from keyboard--but the feeling was still strong-and I remember actually turning around-fully expecting my late father to be standing there-but there was no one--visible that is! I swiftly left the room and went into the garden for fresh air-i put my hand to my neck where the hairs were standing on end!
It took me a weeks or so before i could go back inthat room to play once more!
Just a small experience but a very very powerful one!
Have you an explanation?
Ellie.

Sounds like you had some spiritual connection Ellie.

Its happened to me too and experienced it at this keyboard whilst going through a very bad period of my life when suddenly my fingers felt as if they were being pushed/directed? on to the keys by 'something'. It was really scary and I got up from the keyboard in shock but built up the courage to go back and messages were typed on to the screen which related to my dead grandfather (had to ask family member to find that out)

Who can explain it??? Scary but comforting too.
Ellie

strange coincidence

Dear guest it seems you & I had very similar experience--you see, my father was a talented pianist and although I only had himaround for 9 years he started to teach me from say 4-5 yearsold --I believe that music can "connect" people--look how we're moved by beautiful music-someone-I believe it was the composer Salieri-likened the music of Mozart to the "voice of God"speaking through this man.
Although i say I was scared that day -when I calmed down irealised I wasnt really scared -just startled by the intense feeling and that those we love and lose never really go away;that in some way that we dont know of,they are there but just out of sight.
