Hi, we are visiting Carvoeiro at the end of August (29th) for 9 nights. We are a married couple (30 & 33) who like days at the beach and also seeing as much as possible of the area, although we won't be hiring a car. Nights out for us are a few drinks, a good meal, and a night-cap or 3 We are not into clubbing. We have booked the Mirachoro Praia Hotel. Any recommendations you could give us on where to eat out ect would be really appreciated. Also, is there a good bus service from Carvoeiro to other resorts? We would like to spend a day in Vilamoura as we honeymooned there 3 years ago, and visit the old town of Albufeira. What are the prices like for eating/drinking out in Carvoeiro? I know that the beach at Carvoeiro is quite small. Is there a larger beach within walking distance? Weather wise, what tempetures should we expect for this time of year?

Hi AnnieK, There are a quite few restuarants in the area where you are staying along the Estrada Do Farol, some of our favourites that I would recommend are Casa Algarvia, Casa do bife and Columbo's, the meals are reasonably priced between 9-13 Euro's and the drinks are reasonably priced as well.
There is a tourist office in the main square and they (or your Hotel) should give you information about buses etc, but I would definitely try and hire a car if you can if you intend to visit Vilamoura/Albufeira, plus there are plenty of larger beaches and small coves all along the coast line eg Sao Rafael in Albufeira/Gale, Salgados, Armaco de Pera and there is also Algarve Shopping to visit if you want a break from the beach!
We have found that end Aug/beginning of September is the best time to visit the Algarve as the temperatures then are still hot but not overbearing as in July and the beaches are also alot more pleasant to stay on!

Hi, AnnieK, weather at the end of August will still be quite hot I expect, usually is, something like 30C during the day although the temperature does drop nicely in the evenings with the breeze coming off the sea.

We are a little older than you guys (50's) but also just like a nice stroll, drink, dinner and then a few after dinner drinks for our evenings. We like Casa do Bife for good stone steak, fish and chicken, Good service and great food and wine. Maximes is also very nice, run by a Dutch guy, good food a bit more expensive. Chef Antonio is also a great place for nice food especially the Cataplana. All of these are down the hill from the hotel you are staying in. Chef Antonio on the left as you go down, set back from the road a bit, the other two almost next to each other on the right hand side.

Please look through the restaurant section of this site to get some more good tips for restaurants.

As you go down to the square on the right by the taxi rank is Colombos a lovely place for a pre dinner drink as you can sit outside and watch the world and the sights! go by. Then if you go right just past here and up the out road from Carvoerio, on the left hand side just past the jewelery shop is a lovely bar that does great cocktails.

I don't know about buses as we always have a hire car but you could always get a taxi out to any of the other towns nearby.

The beaches to either side of Carvoeiro are lovely again I can't help about whether you can walk to them Roy4eyes might have more info on that as he does walks around the area during the winter months....

Just go and have fun exploring you will love it. If you get the chance go to Silves and have a day just walking around the place, beautiful...

Also the Monchique mountains and the spa just below Monchique are well worth a visit.
