Hi there!

Can anyone please give an update on Centianes beach en the beach restaurant O Stop?

I know this has been a topic many more times, but I assume (hope) there still will be some progress...

I was there the early part of July and the O Stop was still under construction. I was told by a local that it would be another 15 days before it opened. Probably extrapolating that would mean 30. Unfortunately it looks like it has to follow all the European norms now and well, there's alot less room for beach front tables and there were issues of accessibility for all......

As far as the beach cliff work it is really a horror. You now have natural cliffs to the west of Centianes cove with abutting Godzilla clawed cliff face "highway cut" effect. I realize the overhanging rock might have been a danger but to the point of where this scorched earth policy took place I do question the "Ambiente" governement dept and how they let something like this occur while slowing-stopping projects in the Algarve.

if i wanted bland , uninteresting , man-made beaches , i would go to the canaries....surely part of the joy of the algarve is its wide and diverse coastline...?
but maybe thats what holdaymakers demand now..ie
adjacent car parking..wouldnt want to walk to far would we..?...i`m sure some people will say.....but what about those with walking difficulties or with small children...?.....well go to a beach thats suitable then..!...and lets stop destroying natural habitats for the sake of man`s 2 weeks in the sun every year

I'm afraid I don't understand exactly what has been done to Centianes. Would someone please elaborate. Has the cliff been bulldozed or something? Has the access been changed? Thanks.

Tippy, take a look at the photos on the home page of this site, not a pretty view - a bit worrying really.

Any updates? Is the restaurant already open? And what about the water - is it still cloudy? I'm going the first week of September, staying in Colina Sol. What do you think - should I ask my travel agent if I can switch to another accomodation or is Centianes acceptable?

Just bring this up to the top to see if anyone has the skinny on the restaurant formerly known as O Stop? Is it open, same family running it, same basic fare (and at the pre-ISO 92xx prices)?

Check out the newsletter (front page) I'm sure I saw that it had opened in the current edition.

Yes beach bar opened at end of July. Few teething problems but good facilities. Showers available at 1 Euro. Same family running it.

The beach is a disgrace to all who had a hand in changing it. Difficult to enter sea except at high tide due to large stones left on the sand which make walking in difficult and dangerous.

The beach is itself is still OK but I would not go there again until the issue of the rocks on the shorelline has been resolved. I was there in July and it was virtually impossible to get out to swimming depth without turning over ankles. Hopefully the Camara will re visit during the winter and together with the help of some decent storms, finish the job they startted!!

I spoke to the owner of O Stop today, he said the beach was better and the resturante is open. Everything will settle down after the winter waves take the stones far out to sea, next year you'll have your lovely sandy beach back, then you can come and enjoy Carvoeiro again. Please don't stop coming because of one beach, try one of the others, Albandeira is lovely!
