November, January and February are probably the quietest months in my experience, although that doesn't mean it's a ghost town. We still found about half the restaurants and bars to be open, and if I could only go in either January or August I personally would choose January! There are quite a lot of people who take long lets for 3 or 4 months so this stops it being too quiet.

The weather is cold at night, but with a log fire and some electric radiators we were fine. During the day it can be lovely, with temperatures in the late teens/early twenties, although obviously you are taking a chance on a wet, cool spell. I have seen plenty of people sunbathing on the beach and have even known people to swim in the sea in January and live to tell the tale

It's nice to see Carvoeiro as a 'normal' village without the summer crowds.

it is nice to be in the Algarve, no matter when. It is always less colder than with us an Carvoeiro is surely no ghosttown in winter.

It seems sensible to ask what is and is not available to you when you stay in CVO in the winter months. I guess for everyone it is not simply the fact that it is not home/work that makes CVO special, for some people it will be the sun or the scenary or the gastromony or the bars (perhaps even particular ones).

And as shallow as I am sure this sounds there are some places I would not like to visit when they were not sunny, there are other places that I would avoid visiting when my favourite restaurant was closed for a winter break. Other places have magic that is totally associated to a time of year and may be very ordinary if you visit at another time, e.g Arromanche on 06/06 and Ypres on 11/11

Ok clearly starting to ramble now
