It's very much alive and the president of the group promoting this venture is doing the rounds explaining the status etc...basically all licenses are now in place to proceed and the local Camaras are busy planning the access roads etc and have in fact started laying new tarmac on the minor roads to allow the trucks to start rolling.......Its in Alcacar by the way which is about 5 miles north of Penina

Give me a link, any link, to an f1 forum/news page etc that supports this view. I cannot believe that a projected new round in F1 would not raise the slightest ripple among F1 media or fans.

If you google f1 algarve then sportnetwork.net users seem to be discussing it

3 of them. Is that it? That is the sum total of the publicity is it?
Why do you think it is going to be an F1 track then?

Someone has been playing this game for over a year now, I wonder why.

You might wish to call by Bemposta HQ sometime and ask for Mr. Paulo Pinheiro who is spearheading the F1 project , his office is certainly a busy place with a lot of very active architects and engineers.
This part is fact , whether or not he will succeed is another thing....but it is a fact that he feels this project will be successful.

Ready in 2004 yes.
Look lots of people have fantasies, nothing to worry about here.

Well the residents in the area are certainly sure that its going ahead (and either worried or very unhappy), I have spoken to some of them as I work up that way sometimes.

Maybe they are. That has no effect whatever on whether a track can host F1 or not.

Yes you'r correct but they can host :
Super Bikes and all other Bike classes.
Saloon and all other forms of car racing
Truck racing
Formula Ford / Three etc
Classic classes
Super Karts ( Already out for Tender..they are looking for about 5 million to include the track and pits plus a shop and workshops )
and of course F1 and other formula practice weeks............
forget the F1 there will be enough noise and pollution without any actual F1 races....

Silverstone has around half a dozen high profile meetings per year like F1 and Touring cars.
In addition there is a meeting every two to three weeks, things like bentley drivers club, 750mc, vscc none of which draw particularly big crowds or make much noise.
F1 teams are only allowed 30 days of testing per car for a year.
Truck racing, 10 races per year throughout Europe including a mind boggling 24 hr race at Le Mans.
So even if a track gets built and even if it is certified for racing it is wrong to imply that there will be open exhaust cars roaring round the whole time. Car tracks are really not used very often at all.
And it won't be a F1 track!
