I am visiting the Algarve in three weeks and wonder whether anyone can give me any advice re money aspects. Is it better to the Euros or travellers cheques? Any advice would be great.

I would either take cash in euros or use the cash machines in the village as I understand that it is quite expensive to change travellers cheques in the banks.

When I was there in July I took a combination of cash, cheques and a card.I haven't had my bank statement thru yet but I think they charge about 1% when you use your debit card(not a credit card as they charge interest from the day you draw the money). With sterling t/cheques I wasn't charged any commission by the bureau de change by the square but didn't get the best rate ( I think). Euro t/cheques attract about 2% commission. So it would seem that a debit card followed by Sterling t/cheques is the best option. Not a good idea to rely just on your card in case it gets lost and on occasions the hole in the wall machines pack up for a couple of days! You should have a great time as It's a great place.
