Hi
will be arriving in Carvoeiro for the first time next week with a family of teenagers and small son - can anyone recommend some good restaurants? Will be staying near Monte Carvoeiro if that helps.

Otherwise, there's many postings in this forum under varied subjects with a number of suggestions, recommendations, and some keep away notices too.

Restuarants Oasis excellent food on the one way system on the road out, but you need to book, china Town up the main road on the right and next to it 0Tasco, smiliers is excellent for lunch time snacks. All restuarants are excellent with children, ask for there main course to come with your starters. We have been to Carvoeiro for 5 years and never had a bad meal. enjoy your stay and have a wonderful holiday.

We recommend 'O Cantinho' - up the hill on the right hand side (estrada do farol), chefe antonio - just before o cantinho, lanterna velha - opposite chefe antonio, cafe fino - opposite o cantinho, for breakfast.

Depending on what kind of food you like I can tell you I had real good dinner at the following restaurants during my stay in Carvoeiro:
Mitz Restaurant, Restaurant Roma, Restaurant l'orange. I find that many of the other restaurants we visited , the food was quite all right but very common. I liked the above three because of quality, atmosphere and unicity.

.......a place I forgot to mention is Caneiros beach. We had lunch there every day at the lovely beach restaurant (open terrace - sea view). They serve fresh fish and portuguese specialities. For your children all kinds of fast food are available as well. I would recommend the fried 'coated' shrimps with cocktail sauce. It's not on the menu card but they will know what you mean when you ask as I ordered lots of it!

Try A Gale' - very friendly & excellent food. In CVO there is plenty of choice of restaurants - you name it they've got it to suit all tastes (& pockets).

Phew its HOT here in Wales!

One of the bet is Julios down from rocha brava but you will have to book. It has great atmosphere and you can sit outside under the trees or inside the well appointed restaurant. Well recommended.

Not too sure about Julios - you might find me there, and at Roma, and Bon Bon. All serving great food, and great banter.

I definetely recommend ' A Bordo com o Carlos' as the best, however slightly expensive option (25€/person wine included), on the road to Marinha beach. However they'll require prior reservation.
For the everyday, portuguese style cooking, restaurant I'll suggest ' A marisqueira' where you can delight on fresh fish for a reasonable price.

....Mmmmmm .. Juios used to be good.....but has gone rapidly down hill...well for me anway..last week we had to wait 75 minutes for our food....The King Prawns whilst advertised by weight are now sold by number.all at 20 Euro EACH.....and when I enquired after my meal (After 75 minutes) I was told ..nothing we can do we are too busy..after all youve had your starter ...Oh yes the PRAWN cocktail turned out to be a SHRIMP cocktail..just l;ike in UK but rare here.. (One hour ago !!...) sorry I spoke..Oh well back to the usual good places down the hill.

Glad someone else has sussed Julios for what they are, had a chicken dish full of bones a year ago that was supposed to be fillet! £14 a king prawn is an absolute joke. Now we know where the proverbial p*** is being taken on higher prices, or at least one of them! Mike, Chislehurst.

Have to say, a couple of years ago, whilst in the Algave I ordered King Prawns in an "un-named" restaurant, I admit the clues were there when they gave me 18 King Prawns in Garlic with CHIPS - but I ate the lot - well thank God for the bidet!!!!! Did you know you can sit on the toilet whilst being sick in the sink and clean up using the bidet as you go along all night - no neither did I until this particular night!!!!
