Vodafone Vita Net Life mobile broadband

Has anyone tried out this? I found this on another forum! I'm wondering what the signal strength for Vodafone is close to Carvoeiro.

Vodafone Portugal has launched a new prepaid mobile broadband package, branded Vita Net Light, which for the first time offers billing by internet connection time. The new plan offers prepaid customers a 10-hour 1.0 Mbps mobile broadband internet access for EUR10, which can be used any time during a 6-month period without any data traffic limit.

This new price plan differs from existing prepaid Mobile Broadband offers by being the first in Portugal to offer billing by Internet connection time, making control of data communications easier, especially for new users of information technologies. Vita Net Light provides a connection speed of up to 1.0 Mbps without any data traffic limit, with billing based solely on Internet connection time, so eliminating any worries the user may have about the volume of data transmitted.

Vodafone is also revolutionising prepaid Mobile Broadband in terms of the validity of top-ups. This is the first plan in which top-ups are valid for 6 months (180 days), making it more suitable than any other plan for users who only make occasional use of the Internet. With Vita Net Light, a customer who makes a top-up of 10 euros is able to use the corresponding hours at any time during the following 6 months.

To use the Vita Net Light service, customers simply need to purchase a Vodafone Connect Pen and Vita Net Light Card, which comes with 10 days' Mobile Broadband Internet access included, for 49.90 euros or just a Vita Net Light Card, also with 10 days' Internet access included, for just 14.90 euros. In either case there is no minimum period involved.

This new price plan complements Vodafone’s existing Mobile Broadband offer, joining a range of four postpaid plans with speeds up to 7.2 Mbps and data packs of up to 6 GB/month, and the prepaid Vita Net plan with speeds up to 2.0 Mbps.

Note: Prices include VAT.

Yes, I swapped onto this a few days ago. Connection is fine.

Sounds much better than the TMN stick I used last year although signal strength was excellent . The TMN system costs 20 Euros /month and purchasing stick was 80 Euros. Although only allowed 1MB of data/month this not a problem since only used for email. We spend winters in Carvoeiro (Jan-May) and this was much better than any other existing system since you did not have to sign up for a year. The main problem being if not used for 90 days then you have to buy a new SIM card for the stick so now every 3 months while away I top up with 10 Euros on the internet.

What you descibe sounds much better but I have a question, is there a minimum time each time you access?

Because I wanted to know what the signal strength for Vodafone was like in Carvoeiro and if anyone else had started to use it and they might share their experiences of using it.
Would you know the answers to these questions? If so a useful reply would be very much appreciated.
However I'm sure you may comment anyway.

Michael you are funny, why wouldn't he post it here? A lot of us post stuff we've read or heard elsewhere. Presumably bjay (not sure about the name) thought he might get some info' & other people might find it interesting or helpful.

Jeez - why are you lot so bloody peculiar. No wonder so many people post a few times and disappear. What the hell is wrong with asking whether anyone has used this new dongle? Personally, it is saving me a fortune and I am very pleased that I have found it. Paying 20 euros a month when I am only in Cvo 5 times a year at the most was ridiculous.

However, some of you seem to know everything, so forget what it is like for mere mortals who like to hear the experiences of other people.

Thanks for that fmm. It would take more than Michael to make me disappear from the forum as I have to say its most useful. I have got so much information from it myself and like to share anything that might save us all a few euro/pound.
Anyway I think he's quite cute as he keeps the posts going and I wouldnt take his banter too much to heart.

Not withstanding the comments from Mr. Crane, thanks for all the constructive comments but nobody did answer my question "Is there a minimum time (or charge) each time you access". Reason I ask is, this is often the case were I live. I fully realise there is confusion as to which forum to use but since I first read it on this forum, this is one I replied to. A Reply to my question from anyone except Mr. Crane would really be appreciated.

How do I connect my laptop to our home Broadband Internet connection? Have just bought a Dell laptop and want to be able to connect to the Internet (broadband) in our house, but is there any way to do this without having to physically connect it to the PC? I was told to get an Ethernet cable but I think this only works with a dial-up Internet connection, plus I didn't know where to plug it in.

If you have a broadband router in your villa your Dell PC should connect to it using the wireless LAN connection. You switch on the wireless connection on your PC and then search for new connections. It should find your broadband router automatically but you will need to know the password.

I used TMN earlier this year for three months and found them to be the best of the three prepaid service providers available in the Algarve. First of all, you are not restricted to how much download /upload capacity you may use in a month. Secondly, if you already own a stick, pen and/or data card, you can use it in Portugal or anywhere else. If it is locked to a service provider, just unlock it and buy the sim card and time from the provider you want and you are ready to go.
