World Telecom
I am thinking of changing from PT/Sapo to World Telecom as the deal for broadband, calls, line rental and mobile is far less. Does anyone have any experience with this company before I make the jump?
many thanks

Re: World Telecom
I have used there broadband + service for several years. It has been very reliable which is important for me as I need to maintain a VPN link to my business in UK. I also have a VOIP phone system which is connected permanently to the UK. Calls to and from my office are free, and calls to UK numbers at uk local rates.
I had to use there support on one occassion and this was handled by an English speaking (Australian) gentleman, who dealt with the problem (my router) ably and efficiently offering to call out that evening if required.
I still have my landline with PT. so cannot advise on that service.
I pay 30 euros + tax a month which may be expensive?

Thanks TCS. I am looking at a package that includes wireless broadband (16Mb), line rental, unlimited free calls to UK, Spain and Portugal (08 prefix numbers not included in the UK) and a free mobile with 10 Euros of calls each month. This is 52.08 plus IVA month which compares very favourably with waht I am paying now (35 for Sapo alone).
Based on your comments I think I'll go for it.
Shangarry - hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: World Telecom
Hi Peter
Spoke to them this afternoon and realised they are tied up with Optimus. As I have an Optimus mobile and also Optimus Kanguru (Wireless Broadband), I am probably going to go for the landline option although I have no need to call anybody in Spain but I do use more than the €10 credit. As I have been left in the lurch by PT - I don't want to have anything to do with them.
Strangely enough as we drove up Rua do Farol on Saturday evening, I noticed the signal strength on Optimus dropped to zero. My friend commented that this is usual as TMN has a far better signal spread than Optimus?
Finally I have a UK Nokia E55 phone that is locked to o2 - is there any way I can get it unlocked to use it with my Optimus SIM card? I can make calls with it but it will not ring on incoming calls from Portuguese mobiles and landlines. Calls from the UK and USA ring normally - I'm baffled

Re: World Telecom
In the case of the O2 phone you will probably find that this reflects the terms of the roaming agreement that you have with them. You may be able to find an unlock programme for the phone if you look on ebay. Alternatively you could ask O2 if they will unblock the phone. My former UK provider gave me the necessary code for my phone upon payment of a charge.

Shanagarry,
I did notice when trawling the web for something the other day several sites on the theme of 'unlocking your xxx mobile' Maybe if you google it may come up with something.
Cheers,
Peter

Thank you. I contacted o2 and surprisingly they were most accommodating and have e-mailed me to say that my phone will be unlocked within 28 days for me to use on any other network. I suppose that on the basis that all our business mobiles are with them and I still retain my UK number with them - this one is a gesture of goodwill

I meant to add that I did try one of those unlocking sites but they were unable to calculate a code to unlock a Nokia E55 and they refunded my £3.50
