For aggregates and bark try the company below (the supply and deliver and I use them for logs at 1 tonne at a time). If you want to visit go on the 125 from Lagoa to Guia and at the first roundabout turn right (signposted Gale) and then go through the village and turn right when you see the sign for Gale again. The depot is about a mile on the right. If you were to contiue on this road you will come to Guia and see a sign for Apolonia http://www.apolonia.pt/en/index.php. This is one of the best supermarkets in the Algarve (not cheap) with great quality and very like Waitrose!!!

There are local small builders suppliers too and if you want to have the stuff spread by a JCB let me know when you arrive and I can give you the number of an owner operator who charges €30 per hour.

When you go into Pina just ask at the desk they'll give you a leaflet to fill in & then you'll get your card through the post, in the meanwhile make a note of your number, the assistant will give it to you, so you can claim your discount when you shop even though you haven't got your card yet. I think if you haven't got a postal address you can pick your card up from the desk. Another good place for plants are the markets there are always several plant & produce stalls, the one in Algoz is particularly good for this. A list of markets & dates is usually in the Resident newspaper.

I will want bulk plants etc so I presume it's better to go to Pina. of. Ourse I will not have a proper address in CVO, but how is post usually delivered once we have a real villa? LICY

My former neighbour made his own water sprinkler out of an old hose.

He put holes in the hose and had the hose on titled angle so the water would flow down consistently; it certainly worked provided the holes are clean cut and evenly distanced. The whole garden got watered left to right but the hose must be on full blast so that the water can be forced out and reach a good distance from the exit points.

Certainly beats forking out €600 somebody here mentioned. Absolute rip off.

will have to think about that one and maybe ask my wonderful DIY enthusiast of a brother. LICY

There is always Option B. Get some bottles of water; get a heron addict off the street; give him the water in the garden and tell him to spread his arms out across the lawn! Hey presto a water sprinkler!

You can find those sprinler hoses in may garden centres or DIY stores, we got ours from the local £ shop in the highstreet.

Effective but need to be left on longer than a proper system.

A bit of a twist to the topic but we have just had our irrigation control valve off our tap stolen in the past few days .They unscrewed the connector but cut the pipe ! So yes we will be saving water but a the expense of the plant life dying off. We are in Boavista and would have hoped that Roy4eyes would have been on patrol on his way down to the Crazy Chicken to apprehend the scallies. Its annoying and frustrating since as I understand it the weather in CVO is warming up nicely now and our fledglng plants will need some nourishment.

I have a great book called "mediterranean garden plants" but can't remember the author - its in the house, so when my daughter is there next week I will e mail you details -It gives a huge list in 3 hundred odd pages and descriptions of plants with 1, 2 , 3 drops of water ratings - ie from very litle to those requiring irrigation. My approach was that I wanted NO irrigation other than the odd hose pipe by anyone who goes to the house in summer. ie a natural mediterranean garden

There a large number of plants which do not rquire any water in summer - once established;- Oleanders in pink, red, yellowish white are the main ones - we have them and they are round Jo's garden - they will grow eventualy to 3m.
For fantastic colour - virtually all year round, Osteospermums are wonderful - various colours from white through to deep purple - they grow like mad. Then there are the succulents - the main one - cant remember the name, but its all over the place and it grows on edges of beaches and acts as sand retainers - again needs NO water in summer and there are several varieties in a whole family of them - our two banks are now covered after less than 2 years.

Bouganvileas require very little water once established - you can buy 5 yr old ones but they are quite expensive - Natura and pina have them.

Palms, Agarve and Sanseveria families need virtually no water in summer

The main body of the house, at the back of the site is done....but that's it

I'm sure that work has progressed inside, but from the outside little change in the last 2 weeks.
