Beaches Closing?

My daughter is in Carvoeiro and has just telephone me to say that she has been told that some of the beaches are being closed because of a fungal infection. Can anyone please confirm this for me?

I would have thought that if any Portuguese beaches were going to be susceptible to anything like this it would be the ones on the eastern side . Know it's all the Atlantic, just surprised that it's the ones on the western end that are affected.
