(1) Is it possible within the Lagoa district to have the Financas send the IMI bill direct to the UK?

(2) Will they now accept direct debits?

(3) Can it be paid by bank transfer?

I understand such things are possible elsewhere but up to now I have always had the bill sent to my Portuguese address and paid via Multibanco.

I have the IMI sent to our UK address, this can be arranged via Lagoa and i then pay wither on multibanco or online from my Banif account.

They will send the IMI bill to your fiscal address. You can have/change to an UK address as the fiscal address, just visit the closest Finanças office in Portugal. But you can only pay using a Portuguese bank, at the CTT or at the Finanças office. You can't do a UK bank transfer to pay the IMI.

Like a lot of others I used the services of a financial representative until they changed the law (thanks to the EU making them treat all EU citizens as equals). I visited the Financas office in Lagoa and transferred liability for payment to myself at my Irish address. The officer I got was efficient and easy to deal with. I paid a couple of the IMI invoices at an MB in Portugal after receiving the bill at my home address and just taking it on holidays with me. However they then changed the dates for the 2nd instalment to November. Not good at all as I am never in Portugal in November. So I went into the office in Lagoa and paid the 2nd instalment in September. I explained that I would not receive the 2nd instalment until I had returned home and was there any way to 'obtain' this 2nd instalment in advance of September. He advised me to contact my original financial representative who had 'my' password and I required this to view my IMI details online. I tried this but of course they didn't play ball so I contacted Finances once again on a visit out and they 'cleared' my password and put in a new one. (I think this was done from Lisbon but cannot be sure)I was then able to enter a new password of my own. Anyway to cut to the chase I was able to pay my first instalment this morning through my Portuguese bank from Ireland.Job done,as I might not be out this April and wanted it out of the way.( For whats it worth I can also see the November statement waiting to be issued)

I've managed to log in but as its all in Portuguese I can't work out how to find my bill.

I use Google Chrome and it translates in English. I go to the top right hand side and click on 'integrated tax situation' and this opens a new box and IMI is in this box.

Luxury! I'm still using Windows XP and Google Chrome isn't available to me. I do use a Translator addon in Firefox to translate selected text when I get stuck but when dealing with things like this find it easier in the long run to try to stick to Portuguese so that what I see on-screen matches what's on the paper (or PDF) bill or form.

Thanks but it seems that it's my hardware that doesn't meet the minimum requirements but since Chrome may only be supporting Chrome until April 2015 anyway it hardly matters. Sorry for the thread creep.

From what you are saying if I leave my fiscal address as in Portugal but register for on line access am I correct in thinking that I could see my bills? And then pay by bank transfer from my Banif account?

Yes to both, though you needn't chastise yourself for not having a Fiscal Rep. As a Portuguese resident you didn't need one.

When you register online they will send you a registration key to your fiscal address via regular mail (CTT). It takes about a week to receive it. Once you have online access done, you can see your bill online and you can even signup to receive the bill electronic through ViaCTT (but you need to know Portuguese to access ViaCTT site, they don't have a English version).

We are coming to Portugal on 17th and won't be home until after the due date so if they send the bill home we will miss it, so I guess we will have to go into the tax office to get the bill if it doesn't arrive by then.

The bill should be there, they were sent in March. You have until April 30 to pay either in full (if less than 200€) or the first installment.
