Good morning

Could anyone tell me what is the best way to pay the rates over here?
I have been told that you must have an agent for the invoice to go to, but we would rather pay them direct debit through the bank so we don’t have to have an agent. Is this possible and would the bank do this, or do you have to pay direct to a post office?
Thanks

If you're an EU citizen living in the EU, you don't need a fiscal rep as you can register your home address outside Portugal as the address to which the bills will be sent. If you already have a fiscal rep you will have to go, in person, to arrange their removal.

You can set up a direct debit through the Portal das Finanças here. You will need to ensure that your bank IBAN has been confirmed (you can check at the bottom of the page here).
