Oxygen
Re the pool product.
I'm not sure whether this is in the same general class as magnetic water softeners, i.e. snake oil.
The web site claims that the oxgen produced by electrolysis kills all known bacteria and viruses in the water. Do you think the WHO and the NHS should be alerted to this, it would save them lots of money. Also, if oxygen kills bacteria and viruses, and, as I understand it, there is a considerable quantity of oxygen in the air, why do I keep catching colds etc?
What is Natural Oxygen when it's at home? How does this differ from the stuff floating around in the air?
For those who can't remember their chemistry http://www.wcsscience.com/electrolysis/ofwater.html
Have you heard of Natural swimming pools? I think I read of someone in Portugal selling them. These use plants to clean the water which does make sense. http://www.permaculture.co.uk/mag/Artic ... mming.html for instance and http://www.motherearthnews.com/rec/hb/2075/
The second site mentions aerating the pool by simply pumping air in, which seems a whole lot simpler than electrolysis.
Whether this sort of pool would require more or less maintenance than a chlorine one, I don't know.

Ah the power of advertising.
Oygenation of the pool will certainly kill off all the anaerobic bacteria, but it may require something stronger to kill off all other bugs
To the dipstick in the now locked chlorine topic, no I don't own a pool, but I do have a masters degree in physics, and I do know about quantum mechanics. If you want an explanation I can send it to you in cartoon form so that you can (possibly)understand it. I'll even make it so that you can colour in the pictures, to keep your attention

Surely we can do with out these gratuitously obnoxious, offensive and unnecessary comments? Where are the moderators? Any chance you can lock Einstein (sic) out of the forums on this site? He may, as he claims, have a masters degree but he clearly lacks even a basic education in civility! To the dipstick in the now locked chlorine topic
Possibly slightly rude, but...
The other guy was making various claims for something when he seemed not to understand the principles behind it. There is a difference between saying
'I don't really understand this but I think it is someting to do with'
and
'I know about this, it is blah blah blah, and what's more I can sell you one'
Guest too (I assume the same person) was fine with my suggestion to look at poolstore. I am presuming it was my suggestion that prompted him/her to look.
If we were all perfectly polite we would have just said, Ah yes this fine fellow will sell you a sheet of plastic for 700euro or so and the guy could have made 2 to 300 quid on it and fed his family. If he had said, you can get it cheaper mail order, but I am local and can come and get the design right and sort out problems promptly, I would be on his side, but as far as I could see it was just a sale. I'm a firm believer in working for a living, and not just stuffing a margin on hardware. Others think otherwise, fine, no problem, I don't.
Suppose I'll get flamed for this too.

I think 'guest's' very rude response to Einstein was bound to elicit a response in kind. 'Twas obvious from his first couple of responses that Einstein knew what he was talking about, and was treating it all in a light hearted way. Then this guy weighs in and says it's on a web site so it must be true, and challenges the greatest scienist of all time! His reputation was at stake!

Boffins beware!
Hello Boffins Jaccuzzi tom here, First and foremost i would like to draw your attention to the obvious Benefits of MY OXYGEN SYSTEM! I call it mine because i have the sole rights to distribution here in Portugal and Back in the U.K. Not only is this a proven method but is currently being evaluated for medical use. If you would like to know more about this product perhaps e-mail me or better still talk to the pro's on this subject.
I have all contact details. I am currently installing these systems around the Algarve to commercial and private customers all of which are very happy with the savings on chemicals and cleaner, safer, healthier AGUA.

Can you point me to any independent work on whether the system works ok? That website I found (don't know if it is associated with your product or not) is not doing you any favours. It is just poor science.
How much power is consumed per sq m of pool area. As far as I can see it switches on and off, so I really need the mean and peak power (house is solar so this is important).
'evaluated for medical use' By who and for what?

just to the boffins!
Firstly Oxygen in water is different to Oxygen in the air, the molecularEinstein wrote:Ah the power of advertising.

structure of water is effected by the introduction of oxygen, it is this
process that kills the nasties in water, ther same process has different
effect when mixed with air.
The atmosphere is made up of 20% oxygen along with other gases to enable us
to breathe properly and it is the other gases that supprt the nasties in the
air.
For drastic measures try to drink some Hydrogen Peroixde which is Pure
oxygen and Water and moniter the after effects. hope this aids in your quest for knowledge...
