I think it is very laudable and helpful that people have offered their services and take time to visit the area. Soem of us have house managers and maids who visit regularly - in my case the maid has on more than one occasion spotted some dodgy folk wandering around up there looking into gardens and clearly sussing out properties. Residents and owners alike are especially vigilant but I say again until the GNR make an effort and catch a few of these types or owners catch them in the act there will no let up. The levels of frustration are running very high.

Has anyone else written to the Consul?

Jonboy - do I understand from your reply that you have written to the Consul? If so - have you followed it up by phone?

I drive through your area on occasions (once a week approx) and always find it deserted - given that scenario - physical security appears to be the only sensible solution.

None of you have confirmed whether you have alarms - because I'm fairly sure any law enforcement agency will point to that as a good starting point. I would suggest one of you making an approach to one of the major alarm companies and asking for a 'blanket' deal.

Have you written to AFPOP, the papers, the Camara, the head of the GNR - anybody/everybody with influence? Make the 'mother and father' of a fuss to get yourself recognised.

The way the mast problem at AdM was 'advertised' should be a good example - resourcefulness, determination and forcefulness can work wonders - go do it

Yes indeed he replied very quickly stating that he would raise at his next meeting with Lagoa. Your suggestions are really good and I will follow up. The ADM mast issue is a good case to point to in terms of sucess of lobbying at the right level..

Your earlier reply to EMM suggests to me that you are the only person taking a stand on this matter. Your comments have the passion of a person who is prepared and has done something about this unacceptable situation. What are the others in your immediate area doing to counter this?

Start a pressure group (Steen - facilitate an area of this Forum for them to communicate) but take positive action that can be evidenced by a reduction in burglary.

You may have noticed that the business community in Carvoeiro have lobbied the Lagoa Camara for some time to force them into a rethink about the impact of The Square on their businesses. Their insistence has resulted in a meeting sometime in January - in English being held for all to attend - that's progress. These are people whose livelihoods are being jeopardised (they say) by the imposition of the 'new' layout. Regardless of your opinion on their point-of-view, they have made something happen - why don't all of you in Monte Servo, AdM and VdM do the same?

Leaving Jonboy to 'crusade' alone is unfair - more people taking part will get the attention of those who can influence the outcome you are demanding.

We need to organise an active group of house owners in the area with an elected representitive and protest with one voice, whilst we act individually we wont get get anywhere. (1) So the first move is to adopt a dynamic name, (2) do a leaflet drop asking for members, (I'll donate them and I'm sure CM will help) (3) a section on this site solely dedicated to the society, advertise in the free papers, stating the aims of the organisation. Get power, get people. get results, we could use as the logo a bundle of sticks. (as in the parable) We can use the society to present any other grievences we may have. We'll be talking about the security problem next year if we go on like this, Get militant and get results. Go out and rob Poco Partido, how about that, I could bring a few lads over who'd make the locals look like babies

I agree, and will be happy to support and help.

Regarding the ADM mast situation, Hal organised everything, including appointing lawyers from Lisbon, he did a fantastic job. The cost was quite significant, and I paid a hefty contribution, as did some other ADM residents. However, it took months to collect the balance, even though all residents have benefitted from the outcome, particularly with their own future property values. I guess my point is that a lot of people complain, but when push comes to shove, not everyone is prepared to dig in.

We have a villa on Rocha Brava and where we are situated, their security guy has to come up our drive and insert his card into a machine. This is to prove he has been. This happens all during the nigh time and there are security guards patrolling the whole complex, all day long.

Perhaps private security is the only solution, but I would have hoped that a better service from the GNR would have been the first step.
