Does anyone know if you still have to have a load of cabling from a satellite dish to get reception to each TV? We will have TV's in the bedroom and sitting room.

You can share the cable for receiving an analogue signal (old type aerial) with receiving a digital signal (from a dish) very simply but nobody on here can tell you what your builder is installing, whether it will serve the right rooms nor whether the cabling will go to where you would want to site a satellite dish. You really need to sort this out with the builder just making clear to them where you want your satellite dish and then which rooms you want it cabled to. If the builder doesn't install the cabling then any of the firms mentioned on this forum can do it but it will not be buried in the walls. If the builder installs the cable try to make sure they install decent cable to ensure you get as strong a signal as possible.

Both inside and outside the house, I think that this is a mandatory part of your project approval.
Our sat and cable guys were able to run their connections through the internal wall TV/phone ducts.
There is no external wiring visible.
We have TV and phone connections in the lounge, bedrooms and Kitchen.
Ducting from the roof was again pre installed for the Sat dish.

carol thanks. I know no one knows what the builder must install. This is something pretty new as the contract was only signed in December and this new mandatory communications box (or what ever) must have come in within the last 6 months.

Thanks too. I am hopeful that we will not have to chop out rendering/plastering inside or out. I know I need to check this out, but that is easier said than done when we are not there.
I have sent an email to one suggested person above (Mark) to see what he could suggest from my rubbish explanations.

Cabo visao would not connect without sight of the certificate.

Well I guess what ever has changed it is just something so the government/local authorities can get a bit more money from the service providers.

don't know but we have spoken to him. We will meet up to discuss placement of a 1.5m dish. don't fancy the "dogs .....ocks" dish at 1.9m. Will get the HUMAX box here. LICY

just got back from a week in PT. the satellite reception has been awful for quite a while now but got to the point where BBC Wales was viewable during the morning but broke up somewhat. all the other BBC channels were unobtainable, ITV, C4 unobtainable at any time (never been able to get C5). in the evening the only channel available was CBS Reality - not even the shopping channels! decided to bite the bullet and as i know nothing about satellite TV (apart from watching it) called Mark from Skyrealm whom I can honestly say is extremely good and i would heartily recommend him to anybody. he came and changed the dish from a 1.1m to 1.4m and advised buying a Humax Foxsat HD receiver from UK as it was a lot cheaper than he could supply it (will take it out with us in July when we are next there). all the usual channels now viewable at any time of day. apparently, the satellite signal has reduced in strength and will get worse as the satellite itself is nearing the end of its useful life and will be replaced next year by a new one but this will also be transmitting a comparatively weak signal. looks like the satellite installers will be busy replacing dishes in 2012!

We were impressed too. Meeting up when we go out at end of month. Suggested 1.5m dish and humax freesat box. Sensible approach saying get box from Uk otherwise he would need to charge more. Good to hear your recent experiences. LICY

see you installed a 1.4m dish. hopefully this size dish will be able to cater for the reduced strength signal from the new satellite when it comes on stream, and only smaller dishes will have to be replaced. otherwise we are all in trouble
