PRACTICAL solutions to loss of TV Reception

I'm not looking for masses of channels - just Sky News which is often available as part of foreign packages and which is free to air on some.

The discussion so far has been more about maintaining a full service. That was not my question just where can I get Sky News - not the rest of Sky nor BBC nor ITV just Sky News.

I suspect there will be some form of solution find its way there - especially as the bars will have to find something to pull people in

Has anybody visited Harry's, Hemingways, Mungos etc etc in the past few days to see what is available, and how are they receiving it. All these establishments have wifi and are they using this ie Monte Dourado has 4/5 Wifi points at present and could owners there use this to pick up Filmon/Strong vpn? (confess to being totally lost in all this ) I have stayed in hotels in Lisbon and the Algarve and they all had a number of channels(incl news channels) available in english that clearly were not SKY as we know it. Anyone aware of a Portuguse provider that has channels in english and only requires a fairly basic monthly subscription. I have 5 terrestrial Portuguse channels at present but they hard work up to 10pm and even then...........not great.

A friend is having an IPTV box installed next week cost E150, we will soon be able to see how good live streaming of UK TV is.

I am informed by somebody in the trade that the average streaming down load over most of the Carvoeiro area is 3.5 Mhz
Before anybody jumps....yes there are some exceptions.
The minimum requirement for any of these internet based solutions is 5Mhz.

There are solutions being touted, but I am advised to be patient for 10 days to a fortnight, because the trade seems to think that a solution will emerge.

During our December visit last year we streamed a good deal of UK TV via a VPN and found the wifi provided more than adequate.

I hope by this December someone comes up with a work-around so we can still watch Corrie and Emmerdale.

In preparation for what is bound to turn out to be additional costs to watch UK TV in Portugal, I have just given notice to Sky TV & BT Telecom & consolidated a deal with Virgin. Now don't let me down Richard or I'll rubbish you & Virgin Media all over this forum

As I am now suffering from a much downgraded broadband speed from Pt, who would the in-the-know people recommend as a reliable, fast broadband supplier?

Steen. This topic is obviously an important one. Currently there are two such topics dealing with the one subject albeit from slightly different angles. It would be easier to see what's being said and by whom if both were assigned to a sub-forum much like the volcano topic a couple of years back.

Like you Andara I have little confidence in being able to secure a reliable internet connection with sufficient speed to provide a reliable TV reception.

It seems that aiming your dish at an alternative satellite & buying new digi boxes might be a stopgap solution providing a limited number of mainstream channels like BBC 1,2 & ITV.

I am pursuing this solution but have been advised that demand for the digi box outstrips supply so delays are inevitable.

In any event it's subscription free but not without risk!
