Registering to work as nurse portugal

Post by pseddon147 »

Can anybody help, I am a british registered nurse hoping to work in Portugal, but I cannot seem to find any points of contact, have tried the British Embassy, the UK nursing body(NMC) and have had no reply from the portugal nursing council. Is anybody able to help with any info, or do you know a British Nurse who is working in Portugal who I could speak to. All info gratefully received. Many thanks.

I should imagine you will need to be able to speak Portuguese. I know someone who used to work as a school nurse for one of the international schools, but I don't think that's much help. I don't know of any other 'foreign' nurses here though.

Try the private Hospital Particular in Alvor, perhaps they have some info.
Here is a link, the site seems to be only in Portuguese, but there are contact infos.

Hi there,
Ive just made an enquiry of a lady on another website in Portugal, who is a state registered nurse and has been living in Algarve.
She said that the English newspaper 'The News' does have Ads for 'Algarve Angels' (you can find details of this paper on the 'home page' here, click on news in English))
This lady (she is returning soon to UK) did work for private dependency clinic in Algarve (English spoken), which is a bit like the UK's Priory..but she believes they are fully staffed now. She also said that the NMC could be able to give you details?

She gives just a small word of warning..she was reliably informed that she would need a solicitor to assist Portuguese Nurse Registration, which is apparently quite pricey..
and she wishes you luck as I do too :)
I hope you find the work you're seeking..all the very best
