Where do you take the rubbish ??

As finish packing yet another box, I was wondering where do we get rid of all the cardboard, wrapping bubble wrap etc that we end up with at the other end.

Just piling beside the communal bins seems a very anti social act to us ??

Flatten the boxes and put them in the recycle bins, you will see the one for paper has two different openings, one on the back and one on the front, large boxes when flattened will go in the side which has a wide thin opening

If you find you have too much cardboard to fit in the Eco Point container (as we found after moving) you can take it to the Municipal recycling centre in the Fatacil area of Lagoa. They have areas for cardboard/paper and green waste.

An excellent free special collection service is operated by the Camara for green waste and other bulky items. You just need to call 282 380 438 helpful lady D.Sandra will ask you to specify which type of waste you need collected , name address and contact telephone number and they will arrange collection from your property. Time scale varies sometimes collected within one day other times takes about a week, depending on demand I suppose. A very good service nonetheless which we have used many times since moving in!

tbbr, on another thread you asked about the do's & don'ts of moving to Portugal, we moved here 2 years ago, first into rented then last April into our new home, I am still unpacking boxes. We have had boxes in storage for so long now I'd forgotten what was in them, I cannot believe what I've brought! So I'm dividing it all into sections, stuff I'm going to keep (hardly anuthing), stuff that might be of use to friends here, charity shop stuff & stuff for the bin. I currently have a packing paper & bubble wrap mountain in my home, I am thinking of submitting it for the Turner Prize.
I can remember packing in the UK & thinking I was being really ruthless & getting rid of all unnecessaries - obviously not! So that would be my tip, decide what stuff you really need & then divide that by half & bring that out.

Just a small cautionary tale, don't chuck everything before you go out to Portugal, my parents moved many times as I was growing up and after I had left home to start my own life. At the end when I needed to clear out my parents house after the death of my Mum there was very little that was any connection to my past and my childhood, they had been ruthless in their clearing each time they moved.

Now apart from a very few cherished pieces I have nothing much to show for my childhood.

Don't know if this will apply to you at all but as I said just a thought.

That's like me with the book I bought to help improve my memory, I've forgotten where I put it.

The problem we have is that every time I put stuff in the throw out pile , liz goes through it and puts some in the keep ( and vice versa ).
I just cannot bring myself to throw or give away books and given the price of paperbacks in Portugal we will have enough re reading to keep us going for the next decade ( or set up a second hand book stall ).

Its the same with photos, we will not throw them away.
