What the people above are eluding to is the changes coming in later this year that could strip the Algarve of all UK transmissions.

Have a look here:

You could be wasting your money and nobody knows the answer yet.

Has anyone actually asked RJTechnica or the other suppliers what they know of this?

thank you for the replies - very helpful.

I had read about the change in the satellite, but I was presuming it would mean a simple upgrade.

do we know approximately when this is going to happen ? Spring ? summer? autumn ?

If you're in the Carvoeiro area MEO (part of PT) have a good cable wifi system; they have a shop near the other mobile shops in Algarve shopping. Then you can wander round the phone shops & see what you think is the best deal, Vodafone, T Mobile etc are all there.

In oct found that TMN were offering a broadband + house phone for 14.99/mth. We use vodafone sim only for our mobile, seems quite cheap.

Mark at Skyrealm is a Sky engineer email: skyrealm@hotmail.com He is also as much up to date as anyone about the Sky situation what with being in the business locally. Having a Sky dish I asked his opinion about this so maybe worth contacting him direct, very helpful. I do have his number but I think best to email so you can write your questions in an email then call if necessary. Hope it all works out for you and the move goes well.

I can second all of that as he has carried out many installations for me over the years.
