sunbeds

Post by sunman »

our sunbeds need updating; does anybody know where to buy some good ones?

we like the traditional white reclining ones with the blue or yellow matresses separate,

thanks for any help.

Leroy Merlin in Guia. We replaced sun beds in April when we were over. They had a good selection.

Those white plastic sunbeds with foam matresses are so old fashioned, cheap looking, deteriorate in the sun and are basically naff. There are far better quality sunbeds available that are lightweight, have a comfortable and breathable fibre covering so you don't need sweat inducing plastic covered matresses, are weatherproof and cost not much more than the plastic stuff. Our condo here in KL has them (as does any decent hotel). We just bought 6 for our place in cvo and were so happy to sling the old white plastic beds. Check out Casa in Guia but I'm sure you can get them elsewhere.

you sound like one of my children Rampage, are you a plant?

we had some of those other beds you described; they got dirty, bleached & showed stains; & when some helpful soul tried to clean them with a jet wash the spray took lots of the colour away & left them looking like Banksy had been at them with his spray paint, so they're not for us.

we like the old cushions; you can use them a year or 2 & replace them; does anyone else have any ideas where to buy them? thanks 8)

Having tried both types I agree with you Sunman as long as they are of good quality.
I got my ones from Sulpools on the 125 between Odiaxere and Lagos but
It was a few years ago. Otherwise I saw them in Makro.

You will be lucky to buy much at the moment in IZI. Real shame. We purchased our 6 sun loungers from IZI, but I am guessing you will not like them. They are pretty sturdy with the breathable type woven plastic. We used the jet washer on them only a week ago to clean them where peoples feet go and they were fine. They were just shy of 60E each. We had intended to buy the up-market version that the hotels have of this type of lounger, but they were more like 90E each and found in MAKRO in Guia. Have you tried anywhere yet? I would say also try Leroys and probably bigger supermarkets - maybe a trip to Guia would cover that as you would have a pretty good choice in close proximity. 8)

thanks Licy, we're not in CVO at the moment but we have guests coming soon so I've sought the help of our lovely villa managers, they've sourced some very nice chairs & cushions from Leroy Merlin so we're in business 8)

Is IZI building up stock again. In February it looked like the end of a closing down sale, hardly anything there. And the little snack bar was closed.

No in short. We went there in late March to see them putting up shelving. Thinking all would be well stocked we visited again end of April. No luck, still very limited stock with nothing at the far end where they used to have garden tools etc. Very disappointing.

We popped into IZI earlier this week in the hope that it had improved and had what we wanted, but no. Stock ranges and levels are very poor. Surely it cannot continue in business like this. There seemed to be far more staff than customers! Went on to Maxmat. I wonder if Akai will resurface once the mess at Portimao shopping is sorted out.
