Entering Portugal from Spain by road

Post by williew »

We are on the ferry to Santander on 11th Jan, travelling onto Carvoeiro via a stop in Salamanca.

The rules for entry to Spain are quite clear but the subsequent road trip into Portugal is not to clear.

Can anyone clarify what the procedure is to enter Portugal from Spain by road?

We have done it several times during the pandemic.

Unless Spain and Portugal agree to close their borders, which happened for several months in 2020 reopening in June that year, then you just drive through uninterrupted.

I would recommend you have the necessary paperwork in place for Portugal just in case !

Hi Willie
You need your Portuguese Locator Form plus evidence of jabs plus evidence of a PCR test ( 72 hours before) or antigen ( 48 hours before)......they can be on a phone, paper copies safer!.....I was wondering where you would get the tests...on board or in Spain?

We have chickened out and are now flying on the 13th Jan. The thought of having a positive test in Spain, and spending 10 days in a quarantine hotel does not appeal.
Have re-booked ferry for 1st March when, hopefully, things may be better.

Jet2 very good at £58 for two one way flights.
