Its a place I have never been too. Can anyone recommend it?

Tricky, we used to go to this one quite a lot the food was great and the service quite good unless it was very busy then it seemed to go to pot a bit. For the last two years we haven't used it so much, we had a couple of 'dodgy' meals there and haven't been back since. Should give it another go this August

After 15 years of coming to CVO

we decided to try it last year (it being one of the few we hadn't been in).
It was o.k. not to expensive, it's a lot bigger inside than it looks from the outside, the food was plentiful if not very exciting, but it's not
on a par with El and Ela's or Maxims.
At the end of the meal there were the usual free glass of port or brandies, and all four of us were given a small bottle of port, which had Chef Antonios picture on the label.

Good quality, standard Portuguese fare, so, as Kathy says, not comparable with the Northern European experiences.
Tricky - IMHO, its not as good as Vila Nova (nearly, but not quite...)

Hint: the main courses are typically very large, so skip the starters.

When I saw Antonio, I thought of my old Portuguese friend with the stiff leg !
No Ive never been here either..but then my stiff leg stops me venturing further than the immediate restaurants to my apartment..where I manage to get all I want

Years ago we used to eat there a lot but then had several dodgy meals, the other thing is the smell on the street outside, a definite whiff off odour de sewers

. Don't know if it's still the same.

We used to eat there all the time as well, we found that all the meals came at different times and the Veg etc would arrive as you had finished your meat, we stopped going in as well about 4 years ago so cannot comment on the standard now

we went there the other day and it was really quiet whereas the other restaurants in Rua do Farol were quite busy. The food is alright although I missed the house made chips - what arrived (after reminding them of the chips) was rather greasy. But nevertheless the rest was good quality. Only, I have the impression that Chefe Antonio is not any more what it used to be.
