If you want truly superb Indian food you should try Algarve 2000, just up behind Colina Sol near Rocha Brava (in the same parade as Bar Tropical).

The food is freshly cooked to order and the Prawn Curry is fantastic

Ok....each to his own.

I thought the food there all tasted like it came from a cheap takeaway.
It seemed like every dish had the same sauce on it.

Maybe I caught it on a bad...(very) day

Totally agree with tomgibson here we are just back fro 3 weeks in the Algarve 2 weeks in Rocha Brava and 1 week in Alvor, we ate in Algarve 2000 3 times and the currys were wonderful especially the jalfrezi, they even let us bring a cake so we could sing happy birthday to my son on his 7th birthday. To top it off the owner gave us a bottle of cava to finish off this most enjoyable evening.

I will have to agree with Bruce on this one about Algarve 2000. We had a meal there a few years ago and both meals tasted like a disgusting coconut curry nothing like a madras or dupiaza - never been back - shame with it being so close to RB.

Look forward to having a few drinks in the Tropical Bar in a few weeks...

If it was a couple of years ago John and Julie you will find Algarve 2000 is well known for its curries. Went there in May and was great. He has his Indian chef back working there.

I just been in Algarve in 2000, and was suprise they are in promotion the food and drinks are with 30% discount and the internet & Games are for FREE for the clients.
The food was great and the pizzas was very nice . i would be back soon .

There's a 'new' curry house in town.

Maybe they are the old 'Catz'.
Or they are one place more from the very same owners of O Indiano and O Castelo.

Anytway:
O Castelo is now serving the best curry in town - after my house; but you will have to be vip to taste my curry.

This new restaurant (can't remember the name, it's in front of The Black Stone, near Brady's) has besides the usual non spice curry, pizzas. And possibly that's a good thing for the family: kids stick with pizza's - and indian are very good with their nann - and old poor us have the usual curry.

Algarve2000, near Rocha Brava, has not a decent chef nor cuisinne. Aldo they have great icy beer.

O Castello is our favourite in CVO; went there twice back in September. Sat outside the first time as it was still very warm and then sat inside by one of the windows the 2nd time as the cooler eves had arrived. Excellent curry and very polite service.

We used to like the Taj Mahal in Monte CVO, but i think it shut before the summer began.

We were over last week and ate a couple of times at Algarve 2000, and the food was excellent.

I don't think they are trying to be just a 'Curry House', because they offer various types of cuisine - Indian, pizzas, fish and chips and apparently chicken piri piri in the near future. What the owner is doing is offering a good selection of food for for all tastes, at very good prices, and I think that's a great idea.

When we go on holiday my kids always seem to want something different to us when we eat out, and this place gave us that option, we also got take aways for them on two other nights when we went into town to eat, and they loved them. They would have been happy to eat there every night given the chance, because there was plenty to do to keep them occupied, pool, snooker, internet and football on the telly. To me, happy kids means an enjoyable holiday for us.

Stayed in Rocha Brava 24-31 October and ate in Algarve 2000 twice. Had a really good experience. Menu is small which, as you all know, is a good thing.. It indicates to me that everything is prepared to order. Had two super curries there, some nice wine, and a pleasant surprise with the bill, which was very reasonable. The proprietors, George & Karen are welcoming, warm and friendly. I would highly recommend this family friendly restaurant to anyone visiting this area. Will definitely return next time we are there.

Just back from a fantastic fortnight, wall-to-wall sunshine. Having read the forum before we left, we decided to try O Castello and see if it was better than our usual haunt, O Indiano on the Estrada do Farol.

Although the location of O Castello islovely (we ate on the terrace/balcony) we did think the cooking was slightly better at O Indiano. We tried both twice, and each time, O Indiano slighty had the advantage. You wouldn't be disappointed with either, though!

Would agree entirely with you guys the lamb rogan josh and the goan fish curry are excellent one small gripe they have taken the Cobra draught out and replaced it with boring old Super Bock.

Agree we usually go to Indiano even though Castelo is the same menu and same owners.
It is a bit like sitting in a shop window, the decorations naff and sometimes a bit cramped but so far the food is consistently good.

.. and is the food the other restaurants provide on restaurant hill is "portuguese food"?!
