Went with a friend on Sunday evening to watch the World Cup Final on the HD TV at The Cattleman. We started with a mixed salad and then both had a steak. I had rump steak and my mate had the fillet. My steak was cooked perfectly (med rare) and was obviously of good quality meat. My friend commented on his steak as the best he had ever had!!! As already mentioned, the sauteed potatoes with onions that accompany the steaks are fantastic.
We didn't bother with a dessert, but needless to say, the beers added up to more than the food!!
Picture on the HD TV was excellent but I think there was a problem with the sound as we couldn't understand any of the commentary!!!

We have recently returned from our first visit to Carvoeiro, after atending a friends Wedding, and we would definitely make a return visit. While we were there we made 2 visits to Cattleman, and both times were excellent. Although the restaurant was quiet this made a nice change from the hussle & bussle of others we had been too. Both times we sat by the pool, which was a lovely atmosphere and very peaceful. The owner Frank, is a great guy, very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The benefits of the restaurant being quieter than others meant that Frank took the time to explain dishes (Ragout fin) and the background of Cattleman, and of himself. The menu isnt too varied but it didnt matter, the food was exceptional. After an explantion from Frank as to what Ragout fin actually was, we both decided to try it, and we were not dissappointed, infact it was our starter on both visits! We tried the Fillet, Rump and T-bone steak, and all were fantastic, they fell apart in your mouth. By far one of the best steaks that I've had. The dishes were accompanied by Sauteed potato's or homemade potato salad & salad, where the quality continued. The prices were very reasonable too, under 50 Euro for 2 staters, 2 mains & a bottle of wine! Brilliant! If your visiting Carvoeiro, then Cattleman is a definite must. Frank has only been running Cattleman a short time and you can tell by speaking to him that he has great passion for his restaurant and for the food in which he serves, and it shows. I know that he will do very well and wish him all the best!

My parents were there also - they really loved it. And of course Cattleman (or ex-Flamingo)) is by far the most beautiful restaurant in Carvoeiro! Come on, open your eyes and give it a try instead of being squeezed in one of the small restaurants where you feel like a sardine!

Just recently returned from carvoeiro and while there went to the Cattleman two nights in a row, what a beautiful setting for a meal, definatley well worth a visit, (Frank (the owner) was the perfect host taking the time to explain how his dishes were cooked etc. My husband is a big meat eater and has tried hundreds of steaks over the years and says that Franks steaks were some the best he has ever had, I also had the ribeye and t-bone and they were cooked to perfection. The ragout fin I would also highly recommend for starters along with the orange and carrot soup. The quality of food, the setting and the price makes this restaurant well worth a visit, and may we wish Frank all the best for the future and hope this new venture turns out to be a great success.

Went last night based on the good reports on here and was not disappointed.

We had the starter by the pool but the wind made it necessary for most people to move back inside.

The Ragout Fin was very nice but was not as described on Wikipedia - it was totally different - thankfully.

We had steaks and they were cooked to perfection but not as big as I envisaged they would be.

I was very surprised that they could not serve coffee and even more surprised when we asked for Port - they had to go out and buy a bottle.

Frank was very attentive and took the time to explain his plans and I guess that after 3 months he is learning to walk before he runs - sensible.

Nice place, and people, good food, sensible prices - will definitely go back - in the Winter.

Am I right in thinking you are of Irish descent?? If so you are probably not as qualified to comment on the quality of steak as you might think! The best beef in the World comes from Scotland. Just a small observation from a Scot!!!

You are correct I am Irish and you are probably right that I am not qualified to comment on the 'quality' of steak - I was commenting on the 'quantity' of meat that comprised my steak last night - it was not as much as I expected. I did live in the US and Canada for a few years - so I do know a little about steak in large quantities.

As for you claiming that the best beef in the world comes from Scotland - we will have to agree to disagree on that one. You'll be claiming next that you make the best WHISKEY in the world - now that's a debate you won't win

For a women I just love the stuff. A good Bushmills 10 year old OR Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky BUT Talisker whisky does it for me everytime!
