Maximes
Maximes
Went to Maximes in March because it's one of my favourites and was amazed to find the place was empty, yep empty. The meal was lovely but I was concerned about it's future, it was quite expensive but as I've said lovely. I watched a number of people viewing the outside menu and moving on. Do you think they're too expensive for their present location and they'd be better if they located away from the town i.e. The Bon Bon, I feel people walk up and down and compare prices and unless you're a regular customer they wouldn't realise the quality of the food and possibly the justifiably high prices?

Re: Maximes
We were out last month and they had nearly all the tables in use, just depends on the day of the week/month/tourists etc. I don't think they would even consider moving, it is a great location and his son and daughter in law run the bar next door, they use the kitchen at Maximes for their food too. Don't think they are going to have any problems.
Re: Maximes
Lesley, lost my shirt at cheltenham btw but Sam said he would leave summit nice for you....anyway back on topic its his son....and his sons daughter that run the cvo bar now
Re: Maximes
HIs son's daughter? I thought she was married to the son!!!
Re: Maximes
Given the large number of more affordable places in the immediate area Maximes would have to be exceptional and the menu ( which rarely changes )does not suggest this.
Re: Maximes
Nothing to touch it as far as I am concerned in Cvo. THey do change the menu fairly regularly as they don't have my favourite on at the moment. You are unlikely to get a table from July to August unless you book. So I think they are doing OK ... If more affordable means A Gale which is opposite, then I would like to have it on record as having spent the same amount of money in both places despite A Gale appearing to be cheaper! Yeah - you tell me!!! And no comparison for quality. (sorry A Gale fans)

If you had been there last Saturday evening you would have rubbed shoulders with Cliff Richard - it was his second visit there in a year.

Re: Maximes
Just noticed something on an earlier post regarding John and Francine's son, Edwin.
He does run the Carvoeiro Bar (not well) but does not have a wife, he is assisted by Ludmilla who used to be a waitress in Maximes, left and went to Lanterna Velha - returned and now shares her time between the Carvoeiro Bar and Maximes.

Yes we were in as well, Cliff Richard was on the next table, food as good as usual and John is always very nice.

Re: Maximes
And Cliff even joined in on a chorus of Happy Birthday for our friend when we presented her with a birthday cake .
I was tempted to go and get one of the cardboard cutouts of him from outside the wine store down the road and ask him to sing a duet in the Roundup but Joanne stopped me - shame really

Re: Maximes
Cliff and it did not put you off your food. I bet he did not crack a smile, impossible with all that botox.
He must get around a lot almost very decent place in the Algarve claims to have had Cliff eating there at least once a week.
( PS yet another good reason to avoid the Roundup. the thought of sir cliff doing Karaoke )
