Best cheap lunch
Best cheap lunch
Being impoverished ex-pats we tend to eat in the cheapy places and thought a comparison might be useful.
Vimar - 3 course with couvert, drinks and coffee - 2 choices very well cooked - nice ambience 8/10 € 8
Fatacil - " - 8 choices well cooked - like a canteen 7/10 € 8
Crazy Chicken - 2 course with couvert and bica 4/5 choices generally well cooked - nice ambience 6/10 € 7.50
Ti Teresa - 3 course with couvert, drinks and coffee - 4 choices well cooked - friendly family service 7/10 € 7.50
A Palmeira " - choice of plain grills - off-hand service 5/10 € 7.50
Wok & Grill (Portimao) - unlimited Chinese/Japanese unlimited selection - no drinks- concerned re 7/10 € 7.95
hygeine because of poor temperature control of food.
Best house wine - Ti Therese tinto.
Best molotof (my favourite) - Vimar
Best pears in red wine (Carol's favourite) -Fatacil
Best coffee - Fatacil/Vimar equal.
Best soup - Ti Therese
This is just a start and it would be interesting to hear other opinions.
Surprisingly, as most people advocate out of town establishments, way out ahead in our opinion is the Vimar in CVO - small choice but beautifully cooked, friendly and nice atmosphere indoors with comfortable seating also outdoors.

Re: Best cheap lunch
really good selection and great to see some good value places in out of town location.
We have tried Vimar twice, the first visit was outstanding but on the second visit there was a very large dutch party - 20 people.
We waited 1hour for our starter and a further hour for main course only to be told that the pork in figs (the reason we went) was no longer available. Unsure if we would try again as they appear not to be able to cope with volume.

Re: Best cheap lunch
Original (just past the tennis club) choice of either a meat dish or a fish one, covert, desert and drinks 8 euros
Re: Best cheap lunch
Barco Velha is now €8 all inclusive.
Usually a good choice of dishes with some higher priced all inclusive specials (certain grilled fish etc) for those who are not miserly like meself!
Food usually good and well presented for the level of catering we are talking about.

Re: Best cheap lunch
Roy can afford a decent lunch now he's sold his scuba gear
Re: Best cheap lunch
No way. Spent it all on my new zimmer and tiddlywinks set
Re: Best cheap lunch
If you can afford the petrol to drive to Praia da Rocha, the buffet belonging to La Dolce Vita, 7 euros per head at lunchtime, all you can eat, both hot and cold.
Plus delicious pieces of pizza served to you while you are stuffing yourself with the rest.

Re: Best cheap lunch
Tried the Fatacil this time for 1st time. The 8euros covers soup, main, dessert, drink and coffee, and applies both lunchtime and evenings. Thought it would be like a transport cafe, but actually a nice Portuguese restaurant. Good choice of mains and desserts. I had quail at our first visit (lunch). We enjoyed it so much we returned later in week for evening meal. NB No vegetarian choices on the menu.

Re: Best cheap lunch
We ate at Vimar last week and found that it was excellent value for money. The choice for the main course was restricted to a meat or fish dish only but the starters and desserts had a number. Would certainly go again and will probably try a few more of these now.
Re: Best cheap lunch
We have just returned from 7 weeks at R.B. and we had several really good lunches at Barco Velha for
8 euros each you would have a job to beat it for value.
