 So will it be lunch cooked by your fair hand, suckling pig or full English at Rascals for Mothers day tomorrow ??? Me, it will probably be a Chinese take away on Sunday evening as we don't normally do lunch.

Not sure about the food or quality in general at Rascals. I had an apology of a version of a club sandwich which I rated about 2.5/10. My large shandy was served at room temperature so I conclude they have a lot to do to achieve any sort of decent reputation. My wife had a wrap (she had been before) which did not at all resemble the same wrap she had enjoyed a few days prevoiusly. If the owners want to try a real club sandwich they should go to Club Nau and see how to do it properly and shamelessly copy their recipe. It is not really rocket science to serve a cold shandy and a good club sandwich is it?.
The view alone is no substitute for consistency and quality of the food and drinks (Onze being a perfect local example of a great location combined with mediocre (at best) food and lethargic couldn't care less service.

THIS, from the man who was very rude, and took me to task over my comments about O'TASCO.

At the time several posters protested that he was in a minority of one, and was totally out of order. In fact Rascals offered to meet with him, and discuss his public complaint over a friendly drink. He apparantly ignored this hand of concilliation.

I was wrong to be so harsh on TASCO, and apologised to the owner.

Considering the attached, there is something of the hypocrite in Pickwicks public condemnation of me!

Hi Rascalsbar

You can't please all the people all the time - and I am sorry I did not have a better experience when we visited. The whole point of the foreum is to express opinion and inform but I have no axe to grind so look forward to having a drink with you sometime.

It is a shame Bruce has reposted this about Rascals .... I thought he was a fan!!!!!!!
None the less if you compare this with his post below (and the fact that I most certainly did not ignore Rascals and corresponded with them by PMs in a very positive way) I think most educated people will come to their own conclusion as to the identity of the hypocrite and the guy with the agenda??!!??

Cant say the same for TASCO
Couldnt even get a Bruscetta right. Totally indifferent meal. Tride to tell me that a chocolate or mango mousse should have the consistancy of a gloopy milkshake. Will do OK for summer passing trade....but will soon be found out during the winter. Nice guy....but dont think he'll survive too long.

the last posts are not about Rascals, they are a spat between two forum members and should be posted in Chit-Chat if at all...

I always think that it is a great shame that many people tend to criticise a restaurant/bar on a Internet forum often using some 'alias'. I know a number of restaurateurs who complain about this behaviour that they say is a growing trend. Invariably they do not know that someone has had a poor experience until they either happen upon the post themselves or are told about it by someone else. Surely if you have a poor or indifferent experience - tell the owner. I can assure you that most owners would prefer you did.

I've always thought running a restaurant to be a thankless task, you couldn't pay me to do it. You could serve 99 people perfectly well then get the 100th wrong and get slaughtered for it.

I'd like to think that folk go to a restaurant with an open mind & form their own opinion about it rather than get too swayed by the occasional thumbs down report.

One of our favourite restaurants in town is Via Italia, we always get well greeted and treated, served lovely food & wine & have a very enjoyable experience, and yet on this and most forums the place gets kicked to pieces, you'd think they were serving prison food and throwing it at the customers. But there's enough people with that opinion that you'd think they were indeed doing something wrong. Each to their own I suppose. :?

Totally agree sunman, however with so many web sites offering reviews & critiques Restaurateurs ignore this media at their peril.

Here is what customers on Tripadvisor say about Via Italia http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant ... garve.html

Pretty much squares with your own appraisal apart from the references to staff & management reacting badly to complaints from unhappy customers?

Other Carvoeiro restaurants on Tripadvisor fair better, some worse. One of my favourites La Bella Vita does rather well apart from a bad review from someone who didn't even eat there ! As you say "each to their own".
