Jophil, next door-ish to Rosa's Bar.

Happened to try this place other day. €8 got me bread, olives, sardine paste (the usual couvert), turkey steaks in breadcrumbs with fries, rice, salad. Followed by fresh fruit salad and coffee. And 2 x 33cl glass of venho branco.

And Rosa's Bar still up for sale..........everyone who goes there thinks selling price too high.

Value there has always been good, problem is the family are not the most socialable in the world.

With regard to Rosa's. sounds expensive but it is a big plot and the location would make it valuable to the right buyer. Numerous 4 and 5 star holiday complexes close by plus the golf course, lends itself to an up market modern wine and tapas bar. Think you have to forget what it is and has been, but think what it could be .

As a long time resident of Sesmarias I'm not sure that I'm ready for an up market wine & tapas bar. We're a small village with a couple of bars, a great pizza house and some shops. Multipro reminds me of the Two Ronnies sketch with "four candles" he sells everything & is the most helpful shopkeeper I have ever met. Bon Bon is an exception & seems to do well as a special occasion restaurant but I don't think many locals go there.
Rosa's bar is the heart of the village & will be greatly missed by all the locals if it transforms to an up market offering!

Widge, I agree with your comments. For a modern wine bar typ place I liked Hexagone when it was a bar/restaurant. Last time we were there the bar had become an extension of the restaurant, not a place to visit simply for a drink. The work in the pizza place beside the mini-market seems to have stopped?
Regarding Jophil hospitality, seemed fine to me, service with a smile, willing to speak English when my very bad Portugese didn't work!!!
Back in UK and watching raindrops race down the window panes!!

I have never had bad service at Jophil, but they don't go out of their way to be friendly. It should be a goldmine but I rarely see it busy. When Rosa closes in the winter you don't see the locals at Jophils. I don't know what we will do when Rosa goes. It will be the end of an era.

Anyway, I think I will have a wander over later as Rosa is closed on Saturdays.

Geoff, popped in for lunch. Several locals also in, both tradesmen and suits.
I am sure there was a menu posted just as you descend down the ramp into the bar. Daily special wasn't written down, just delivered orally.
Last week paid £4 for a pint of beer...............oh for a cheap beer at Rosa's.........and sitting in the sun!!!

Sorry Farol, should have mentioned was for a real ale in a new artisan bar in my home town in West of Scotland. My son had pint of Stella at £4..............wondered if all beers £4 a pint to help staff add up the bill!!
