You're wrong, Jaylay. Dutchmen too (like me) do use creditcards like the rest of Europe.
Only Dutch restaurant-owners don't like creditcards. Probably for two reasons: a. they have to pay some money to the creditcard companies and b. payments by creditcard are 'on paper', so no chance to let the money disappear directly in the pocket.......

cash n credit
On the whole, I think mainly all cash. The cost is to high for them to install credit card facilities. Some that did do credit cards now do not and the ten we visited for dinner all were cash. Lunch venues were the same.
Hello all.... I've just had a pos credit card machine fitted in my shop (no I'm not a restaurant owner). It cost 165.00 euros + VAT to fit, there is also 24 euros per month rental fee.....and of course 2.5% commission to pay....NOT 5% as you are told by the restaurant owners.
So is it really the costs?? I feel it might be that all sales through a credit card machine are easily traced be the tax man!!!!

Not the costs? hmmm.. I wonder. Let's say a quality restaurant has a yearly t/o of around € 300.000. If credit cards are excepted, experience learns that at least 50% of the clients will use them. So that would be some 150.000 charged with 2,5% = € 3.750,- Add up the € 24 monthly fee and the total reaches around € 4.000,- per annum. Serious money would not you say?bife73 wrote:Hello all.... Re: credit cards or not
Will you restrict yourself to those places that take a credit card?baggysallyjane wrote: As we wil be out 2 CVO in 5 days time. I promise on our return, if someone reminds me that is, to compile a list which does or not do credit cards over the 15 nites of dinners 2 come. Yummy.
