Gluten Free (help needed)
A friend of mine is coming out to Carvoeiro in June and can only eat and drink gluten free products and meals. Has anyone any experience with restaurants around Carvoeiro or even recommend some that offer a non gluten meal. He won't be cooking at the villa so it's really the restaurants and not the supermarkets he's concerned about. Thanks.
Re: Gluten Free (help needed)
We have a relative with the same problem, no easy answer, just to order dishes without sauces (in case they are thickened with flour), breadcrumbs or pastry, but I'm sure he is used to that with uk restaurants anyway.

Thank you for your help on this matter, much appreciated

Maximes will bend over backwards to remove MSG from their food, so I am sure they will do the same for you and the Gluten problem!

Yes they do, they have been very good when we have asked, they are one of the ones we have found to be very helpful.
Re: Gluten Free (help needed)
Can't help with the restaurants, but I did spot gluten-free chocolate cake and other food stuffs in the health food aisle in Intermarche.

Hi,
My wife Jo has Coeliac disease which is an intolerance allergy to wheat and gluten and we have been coming to CV for many years and have found most of the restaurants very helpful with no issues.
Those that deserve a special mention are Elle & Ella, O'Farol's and Jardin O'farol who take great care in explaining what is gluten free on the menu and all the other restaurants we select from the menu items with no sauce and explain that we want it without sauces.
We also use a dietary language card sometimes to explain the allergy, which reads as follows (I'm hoping it translates ok)...
Cartao Alerta Dieteticio
Eu tenho um allergy/intolerance a.
gluten,
trigo,
centeio,
cevada,
aveia
e todos os derivatives.
por exemplo farinha de trigo,
migahas do pao e sauce de soya.
Comendo alimentos, os sauces
ou garnishes conter estes
ingredientes far-me-ao doente.
Pode voce ajudar-me em
Fazer minha escolha de
seu menu?
Gluten free bread and other essentials are available from Carrefours at the Portimao shopping centre and at the chemist within Carrefours.
Hope this is useful, regards, Trevor.

My sister has got a friend who's gluten intolerant and can't eat this and that and this friend's boyfriend is diabetic. So basically, when they go out for a meal they're a couple of pains in the arse. My advice would be to just not take these people to restaurants, they'll only spoil it.

Oh dj.... you really just want someone to answer this with a yell at you don't you?? !!! ?? are you seeking attention, feeling lonely and ignored perhaps.......dj sull wrote:My sister has got a friend who's gluten intolerant and can't eat this and that and this friend's boyfriend is diabetic. My youngest daughter has a disease which she will have for the rest of her life which means that if she eats any gluten/wheat or dairy it makes her very ill, my other daughter is a vegetarian, are you saying that we should not take our daughters out for a meal as they are a "pain in the a**e." Should my youngest never eat out with her friends or family as she is such a nuisance ??? How very narrow minded of you....... even if you did write this as some kind of stupid 'joke' it just shows your ignorance on these matters.

Dont let him wind you Lesley.
I'm sure dj's post is just misplaced black humour.

Re: Gluten Free (help needed)
I'm sorry lesley jean. I did mean this as a joke and would never refer to anyone with a serious illness as a 'pain in the arse'. The friend of my sister's, who i mentioned ,is not seriously ill, but just a bit dramatic when it comes to ordering food in restaurants. You'd never know though, she's a big old bird.
Unfortunately, I can't offer any advice on gluten free food in restaurants in Carvoeiro but wish you all the best in finding some. Much love, dj. x
