Colombos

Post by Ellie »

and I must put in a good word for my favourite dining place Colombos! :)
Its the first place I go to when I go on holidays...I love to 'dress up' and dine out and this is the place I head to.

Marcus & Geninia are such a nice couple and always make me very welcome...as does Pedro and when I sit down they bring me my favourite drink, a rose spritzer with lots of ice....after dinner I like a Baileys on ice mmm.

Fatima is a good cook..you should try her chocolate mousse..its always freshly made and delicious :P

I like the food in this place and the company there....try it

I agree Ellie, it is just such a shame that it was closed when we were out this last week, will have to wait until next Feb now to go back again.

I have never been in and always thought it looks very downtrodden when I go past it...will have to pop in next time I can.

Just shows you though, I was watchin the F Word last week and it was the Chinese Restuarants that were on and I nearly fell off my seat when one of the ones participating in the final was one I walked past every day for 3 years on my way to work in Edinburgh....Chop Chop it was called. Now this place I thought as I walked past everday looked awful, garish inside, net curtains and just looked rank....lo and behold it has a superb name!!

I agree with both Ellie and Lesley Jean, Columbo's is the moist welcoming restaurant/bar I have ever been in. The food is second to none, steaks, fantastic, fish sumptious, and as Ellie said the chocolate mousse is to die for.
All that said though, I must say what amazes me most is even though they must see thousands of people throughout the year, Marcus, Geninia and Pedro always remember you, not just names, but what you drink, and even how you like your steak cooked. They really make you feel welcome, just like good friends always do.

Karen that is so true, it is lovely to be welcomed as an old friend.

Downtrodden.... I don't think so, the tables outside compared to the red plastic things next door are really nice and if you go down into the restaurant you will find a lovely place to sit and eat inside or outside.

Can't fault them for good honest food and wonderful service.

These good reports have intrigued us and I am sure we will giv it a try.
We have been put off before by the tatty state of this corner.
I am sure that the owners of colombos would be delighted if their neigbours did someting to smarten up the area.

Hand written notices advertising the ex factor . etc lead us to carry on walking when we go pass.

Is that true Terry..about the x-factor?

and as Lesley says, they never forget you in Colombos
....I always have a laugh in there too..
On my last holiday (2 years ago) I was there sitting outside with Marcus, Geninia & Pedro, plus a couple of Eastenders and having a merry old time
(the eastenders took me back to apartment in their taxi..well I was a bit squiffy  )

I miss Annette - but understand that she is enjoying motherhood.
My fav. meal at Columbo's is Wiener Schnitzel with fries (it is usually served with a hash type of potatoe). :D

Nothing wrong with Colombos, when visiting CVO often arrive Saturday and Sunday is "lazy" day. No driving no hassles no rushing around. Late brekkie at Colombos, newspaper, couple of beers once the sun crests the yard arm [somewhere in the world]. If it gets too warm in the sun at pavement level you can take a table in the low courtyard.

Oh how very observant of you to pick up my obvious spelling mistake, I just can't believe it has taken a month for someone to point it out. I noticed it straight away, but it was too late to do anything about it.

You can edit your posts at any time after, but sorry for the lapse, I must remember to spend every waking hour on here so that I can pick up on mistakes as they happen.

Oh just remembered I can't. I've got a life to lead.
