Scruffts 2010 dog show will take place on Sunday - Sept 19th at Fatacil in Lagoa

The Association for the Protection of Animals in the Algarve (APAA) is pleased to announce that the main sponsor for the 11th Scruffts Dog Show at Fatacil in Lagoa, Algarve, is Skinners Pet Foods (from Eye in Suffolk United Kingdom) who will have a representative to give advice on pet nutrition and related matters at their stand.
Jo Wheeler, freelance television broadcaster and Sky News Weather Presenter, will officially open the Show at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday September 19th. Returning as judge for the mixed breed classes is Georgie Saffin from the Portuguese Kennel Club.
Another feature of this year’s Show is that the Portuguese dog magazine “Cães e Companhia“ will be giving out a copy of their magazine to all visitors.
“We are pleased,” says APAA President Alan Camplin-Smith, “that this year we have a number of other animal charities including ADAP, The Donkey Sanctuary and from Lisbon, the Bianca Organisation all of which will be with us, pioneering a unified approach to animal welfare. We are delighted that Skinner’s Pet Foods will be our main sponsor and their products will be given as prizes to all winners.”
A number of trade stands have already been booked - with pet products, dog grooming, dog hotels, pet photography featuring at the Show. As last year, there will be 17 pedigree and mixed breed judging classes with prizes and cups for all 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, and for the winner in each class a voucher for a pet portrait by John Olivers Photography.

The 11th Scruffts Dog show which takes place on Sunday the 19th September at the FATACIL pavilion in Lagoa, APAA is pleased to confirm that for the 7 pedigree classes the judge will be the Vice President of the Portuguese Kennel Club, Pedro Albergaria. For the 10 mixed breed classes, the judge will be Georgie Saffin, also from the Portuguese Kennel Club. Local dog trainer Virginia Gonçalves, who speaks German, English, Spanish and Portuguese, will have a dedicated ring to advise on and demonstrate dog training and obedience. Also returning this year will be the agility course organised by Margaret Gobby.
During the lunch break local Frank Sinatra tribute act Chris Storey will be on a mini-stage near the food outlets.
Each Class winner will receive a cup, rosette and a €5 voucher for a photograph by official Show photographer John Oliver. Skinner´s Pet Foods, the main Show sponsor, will provide bags of dog food for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners.
APAA is grateful to all those who have sponsored the individual Classes; a list of these sponsors can be found on the website at www.apaaportugal.com/page39.html.

Returning as Master of Ceremonies is local radio show host, Ian Reddin and lunchtime entertainment is by Frank Sinatra tribute act Chris Storey.
Unfortunately due to a family bereavement, Jo Wheeler has had to cancel her visit to the show as the guest opener, but the organising committee are pleased to announce that Sheena Rawcliffe, Publisher of “The Algarve Resident” and “Good Life” magazine has kindly offered to perform the opening of Scruffts 2010.
“We are very grateful,” says Alan Camplin-Smith, President of APAA, “that despite tough economic times so many firms have kindly sponsored the various judging classes”.
Those bringing a dog to the show are reminded to bring their vaccination books (all dogs must have a current rabies vaccination).
