Walk Monday 13 January 2014 : Cafe Casinhas

This is the new walk we recced at the end of November...it still needs a bit of refining, but hope to have done that by the due date!

Track is fairly undulating, nothing (too!) steep, with minimal loose scree. The final descent is a bit steep. Lovely countryside, plenty of orange groves, nice views from the top.

Duration about 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on final route chosen!

Meet at Cafe Casinhas at 1000.

Directions:
From CVO, drive to Silves and go over bridge, turn right.
At the roundabout, follow the N124 in direction of Messines.
After about 400m, almost opposite the Galp petrol station on your left, turn right on to " Turismo Rural".
Follow this for about 2.5 kms, when you will see the Cafe Casinhas on your right......they don't open till 1100 but will be open when we get back and apparently do a good Prato de Dia.

Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.

Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0900 on the day of the walk.

Just to say that recce all complete , and it is a lovely walk. perhaps a bit short at just under 2 hours, but it all depends on how many stops we have to admire the scenery/take photos/catch our breath!
Total climb is 77m , but nothing too steep. Length 7.7km.

Well, we missed Trish & Alan, and also Carrie & LeMene , but welcomed Nina, Hazel, and Paul & Judith, as well as lots of old friends...in fact, a record turnout of 29, despite the cloudy weather and overnight rain. The clouds soon departed to leave beautiful blue skies. The walk had a few more uphill gradients than I recall on the recce, and took just on 2 hours...hopefully Terry will be loading up the map of the route and other stats.
