WALK - MONDAY 8 JANUARY 2018 ODELOUCA RIVER

Meeting Point Restaurante Ourique, Odelouca, 8300-037 Silves. Time 10:00am. Directions: from the N125 take the Silves, Monchique exit. At the roundabout take the N124 to Silves. At the next roundabout keep right towards Silves. Restaurante Ourique is a couple of kms further along on the right side of the road on a sharp bend, just before the bridge. There is parking just before the restaurant.
This is a new walk close to the Odelouca river. There is a gradual uphill near the start up to the ridge where we can enjoy some nice views. There is a short, steep downhill stretch on uneven ground in the middle of the walk. After this it is reasonably flat and there is an opportunity to observe the wildlife on the river. The walk will take approximately 2 1/2 hours. The restaurant should be open for refreshments at the start and end of the walk and they also do a set menu within our 10 euro budget which includes a tip etc. Please wear suitable footwear, bring poles if you use these, no charge, walk at your own risk. NOTE. WE HAVE TO WALK CLOSE TO SOME BEE HIVES BUT WE DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN WE CHECKED OUT THE WALK. You will all be glad to hear that Carol has had her hip op on 13th Dec and is hopefully coming out of hospital on the 15th. We are planning to fly out on 2nd Jan and hopefully I will be able to join in a few walks. Will let you know which walks I can do.

Linda reports ( the delay in posting this is my fault) :

We had a very enjoyable walk today. It was cold when we set out but after walking up the hill onto the ridge we had all warmed up nicely. We enjoyed some great views and nice blue skies. 14 walkers and 8 for lunch after at Restaurante Ourique. We managed to add another 15 euros for the ADL charity.


David, Mieke, Chantal, Steve, Wendy, Richard, Gerry, Mary, Paddy, Jim, Gill, Rose, Linda and Russell, plus Dougy the dog.
