Walk Monday 24 February 2020 : Beyond Funcho. CLOSED
Walk Monday 24 February 2020 : Beyond Funcho. CLOSED
Walk is now closed as there are enough people.
Yes, I know it's the same restaurant as the week before but (a) it's good and (b) Alan & Trish can't make the week before & would like to go there.
To make it a bit different, we need to meet at the cafe to order lunch, if required, by 0945. We will then drive to the Funcho (5km, 6mins) for the walk, then drive back for beers & lunch.
It is the other side of the Funcho, a lovely river walk, great countryside and a bit of a scramble up a bank. There is some tarmac early on, the amount depending on how high the river/reservoir water is and thus how much of the track is submerged. It does contain one longish hill, not too steep.
It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come as numbers will be limited to about 20. Thank you. Also, whether you want lunch.
Degree of difficulty : Grade 3 Energetic
Duration just over 2 hours .
Start : 1000 at Funcho...but coffee at cafe at 0930. We need to leave the cafe about 0945.
GPS : O Gralha is : 37.2541673,-8.34523,312
Start of walk is : 37.2743665,-8.3140614,624
Directions : drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 7 kms until you see a turning on the left signposted "Barragem do Arade 3 kms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island, which has a large palm tree on it.
It may be easier to meet here at 09:20.....the cafe is another 10 minutes drive away.
If you want to meet at the cafe itself, then drive in the direction of the Barragem for 1km when there is a cafe on the left ( A Rainha): turn right, signposted Canestros and Gregorios.
Drive through both Canestros and Gregarios for 3kms then make a sharp left turn, almost doubling back on yourself.
Drive for 2kms until you come to a T junction at the top of the hill, turn right , drive through the village and the O Gralha is one of the last buildings on the left. please park opposite.
If you wish to neither have coffee nor lunch and meet at the start of the walk, then drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 14 kms , passing signs for Nora and Benaciate (on the right) and Torres/Corte (on your left). Watch out for the O Guerreiro , It is easily missed. It's on the right, on a slight left hand bend, GPS 37.247962,-8.3170429,605.
After passing the cafe, after 500m, look out for the sign " Vale de Fuzeiros and Amorosa" and turn left.
Drive through Amarosa and follow signs to " Passadeuos, Pedreiras, Vale de Fuzeiros".
Go through the hamlet of Pedreiras , ignore the turning on the left to Vale Fuzeiros.
You then should shortly come to a bridge ; park by the picnic benches before you cross the bridge.
Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am .

I will join for walk and lunch. I would prefer to drive with someone more familiar with the location and could meetup in CVO or Lagoa.
