WALK on 22nd JUNE: PEDREIRAS

WALK ON MONDAY 22nd JUNE: PEDREIRAS: 9.30am

This is a variation on one of the walks we do with Geoff. It starts from the small hamlet of Pedreiras which lies to the east of Silves on the road to Messines. It is a lovely 2hr walk with only one hill to negotiate near the start of the walk, probably no more than a 2-3 on Geoff’s scale. It has some very nice views of the eastern side of the Barragem. It is around 2hrs, one fairly steep hill near beginning then a few ups and downs, not too serious.

Unfortunately there are no cafes at the start and the meeting point is a wee bit complicated.

Take the N124 out of Silves and after about 14km you should see a sign for Amorosa & Pedreiras, the M1079. Go through Amorosa and then ignore the turning on the left to Vale Fuzeiros. Keep going uphill and at the top you come to Pedreiras. Park on the road at a junction (R de Pedreiras) and close to Villa Carolina. If you go over a bridge then you have gone too far! Villa Carolina is marked on google maps.

The start of the walk is not to far from Casa Da Vinha and O Gralho (if open) and we will probably eat at one of these places afterwards. Post your interest for lunch.

If you wish to meet up and drive to the walk with us from Carvoeiro then just ask and arrangements will be made.

Please bear in mind that the temperature on Monday may well be in the low to mid 30’s so please bring plenty water and cool clothing.

The walk is normally around 2hrs but we will have plenty stops and not go too quickly, so it may be a wee bit longer.

Lunch has been booked at Casa Da Vinha for 12.30. We have asked for the cheap lunch option!

Well, we did it!

Our final walk of the season and when I got back to the car it was only 32.5!

Nine of us for the walk - we did the complete circuit: Willie & Carol, George & Ails, Paul & Janette, Linda & Russel, Mike.

We were joined by Sandy at lunch in Casa Da Vinha - a truly superb lunch including chicken & mushroom, pork cheeks, steak with lovely salads, chips and boiled spuds.

Nice red and white wine plus some nice sweets including a home made ice cream. 12 euros a head, including tip.
