Hi Louise
I'll post details here nearer the time, but we usually kick off with the windmill walk at Silves.
We try and avoid any roads , so the ground will often be loose scree , which is never a problem on the flat, but we do advise a walking pole on the hilly sections.....which are inevitable, but we keep them to a minimum ....just have stout trainers or, ideally, walking boots.
Look forward to meeting you

Hi Geoff

I will be staying in Pria da Luz from March 30th to April 27th

So would be pleased to join you on your walk on the 21st April

I assume you are not available prior to this date?

If anyone else is interested in going walking during the period that I am on holiday I would be peleased to hear from them so we could arrange to meet

I know of a number of walks in the region and it would be nice to have company instead of walking on my own.

You can download walks information from these two sites

http://www.algarve-holiday-guide.co.uk/ ... a_Rio.html

These ones devised by the tourist board, tend to be on the short side but are quite good

http://www.carvoeiro.com/pdf/TrailsInThe%20Algarve.pdf

The following guide books that you may be able to borrow from your local library will help :-

Sunflower Landscapes, Algarve Car Tours and Walks
Walking in the Algarve by Julie Statham (Bit Vague)
Algarve, Rother Walking Guide by Ulrich Enzel (A number of them tend to be linear)

I will be walking during this period, (See higher up Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:27 pm) I generally walk in the morning early afternoon and do up to a 6 mile walk, you will need transport to get to the various walks. In my case from say Bensafrim, Barao de Sao Joao and Silves

If you would like to join me for some walks let me know

Hi Kostas......look forward to meeting you on 21 April, unfortunately, we won't be out before then. It would be great if you could suggest a few walks to lead whilst you are out thee.....it was the original idea, but am the only one to do so, so far!

Hi Diane....the books suggested by Kostas are all recommended. If you are only there for a week, look in the Algarve Resident or The Post for Julie Statham's organised walks, usually on a wednesday and a saturday. Its a good way of walking with a group, but they are 5€ per person.
