Walk monday 20 February 2017 : Rasmalho

Post by Geoff »

A new walk, the first new one of the year, with thanks to Linda, Russell & Rose who helped find it.

The first 15mins. or so is a little " off piste", but along an old overgrown track. Shorts are not advisable, unless you don't mind being scratched , but it does circumvent the need for any road-work. The rest of the walk is on good tracks, with a mixture of short(ish) ups and downs.

Directions: From Lagoa, drive west on the N125, over the bridge & turn right for Monchique , just before the turning to Portimao. Drive towards Monchique for 10 K until you come to Rasmalho. There is a cafe on the left called " Riba e Serra ". Please park on thr right, just before the cafe, in a small clearing.

Duration : About 2 h 30 mins.

Degree of Difficulty ( scale 1:5) : 3.....Energetic......some steep hills, often with loose scree

Start :10.00 am.

Wear stout trainers/walking boots....a walking pole would be useful. Sunhats hopefully recommended, but some wet weather gear might come in handy.

Please note that the walk will be cancelled of the weather is poor. I shall put a note on this website at about 0830 that morning, 0900 at the latest.

All walks at your own risk.

There is no charge.
Please indicate below if you are intending to come. The winter walks were rather congested and we had to limit numbers to about 20.

Any questions, ring 282 380015, before 0900 or after 6pm .

The cafe does a prata de dia for about 8€ which has been highly recommended.

Hello Geoff,
Just to advise, not be with you tomorrow.
Due to early evening flight and packing etc. We are walking locally along the coast
Have a good walk.
See you next week, Janet and John

13 turned up for a nice walk, rather cloudy, but a bit of sun.
Duration was 2h 5 mins , so how Sue & I made it 2.5 hours I am not sure!

10 of us retired to the cafe for a nice prato de dia for 8.5€ incl.....the dishes of the day ha all gone, but the mixed pork grill was tasty, as looked the pile of chicken wings...all washed down with some nice red wine.

I had hoped to explore a little to the left of the main road after lunch, but kept coming up against this:

Anyway, a good inaugural walk, albeit a bit on the short side, but with plenty of ups and downs.
