WALKS ON 13th JUNE ODIAXERE & 17th JUNE PEDREIRAS
WALKS ON 13th JUNE ODIAXERE & 17th JUNE PEDREIRAS
We have interest for both the 13th and the 17th June so let us walk on both days. Join us if you can.
WALK ON THURSDAY 13th JUNE: ODIAXERE
This is an old favourite and a very popular flat walk starting and returning to the nice wee town of Odiaxere.
Degree of Difficulty (scale 1:5), is a 1; easy; there are bird watching opportunities at the river. It is about 2.25hrs.
Directions: Drive to Lagoa and turn left on the N125 until you get to Odiaxere, a village on the N125 between Portimao and Lagos, about 15 miles to the west of Carvoeiro.
Meet in the square next to the church in the centre of Odiaxere. Coming from Portimao it is on LHS, look for the orange golfe sign. There is plenty parking and cafes are close by.
We will find somewhere local for lunch after the walk so please indicate if you wish to stay for lunch.
WALK ON MONDAY 17th JUNE: PEDREIRAS
This is a variation on one of the walks we do with Geoff. It starts from the small hamlet of Pedreiras which lies to the east of Silves on the road to Messines. It is a lovely 2hr walk with only one short hill to negotiate near the start of the walk, probably no more than a 2 on Geoff’s scale. It has some very nice views of the eastern side of the Barragem.
Unfortunately there are no cafes at the start and the meeting point is a wee bit complicated. Take the N124 out of Silves and after about 14km you should see a sign for Amorosa & Pedreiras, the M1079. Go through Amorosa and then ignore the turning on the left to Vale Fuzeiros. Keep going uphill and at the top you come to Pedreiras. Park on the road at a junction (R de Pedreiras) and close to Villa Carolina. If you go over a bridge then you have gone too far!
The start of the walk is not to far from Casa Da Vinha and O Gralho (if open) and we will probably eat at one of these places afterwards. Post your interest for lunch.
If you wish to meet up and drive to the walk with us from Carvoeiro then just ask and arrangements will be made.
The usual caveats as listed by Geoff will apply.

Hi Willie
We hope to come to the walk. Only fly in ointment is that we’re expecting a delivery on Saturday or Monday. Fingers crossed it arrives on Saturday! We’ll let you know if we can’t make it.

Hi Willie,
I'm afraid I'm going to have to give the walk on Monday a miss. My son is out here and it's his birthday on Monday, so we'll be off out to lunch somewhere. See you around.

Re 17th June walk - regret that Maggi and I are caught up with the departure of our son on Monday and cannot therefore make the walk. Hope you all get it together. Paul
Re: WALKS ON 13th JUNE ODIAXERE & 17th JUNE PEDREIRAS
Two nice walks to conclude our walking season.
On Thursday 13th, Willie & Carol, Graham & Ruth & Gareth & Erica enjoyed a nice walk to and from Odiaxere followed by lunch at Choupama on the N125. This restaurant is renowned for its suckling pig but five of us had Chicken Piri Piri and one had stew! Very reasonable at ~14 euro per head, incl tip. Weather was good for walking and we even saw our fisherman friend at the Estuary. Other spots were a Beeaters, frogs, lizards, a big snake and some fish, large and small,in the levada.
On Monday 17th eight of us ventured on the Pedreiras Walk - Willie & Carol, Wendy, Karen & Caroline, Mike & Sue & Eileen. We thought it would be a good idea to do the walk in reverse but not too sure! Afterwards we had lunch at the ‘new’ Casa da Vinha and it was very, very good working out at 14 euros per head, including a tip and a donation to Mike & Sue’s Charity. We discussed with them our big Walking Group and they said they could accommodate us with some advance warning. A set meal could be available. At the walk Wendy handed over about five bags of clothes and toys for the Charity, as well as 70 euros cash.
Nice finish, see you all in Oct/November.

It's surprising how difficult a walk in reverse can sometimes be!good idea to do the walk in reverse but not too sure!
Glad Casa de Vinha can be back on the recommended list, and thanks for keeping the walking flag flying.
See you all in October, hopefully.
