Walk 14 September 2020 : Norinho, Enxerim

Post by Geoff »

Yes, it's short notice, but I am still out here and it's getting a tad cooler.

It's flat along the lavada to start, has 5 minutes of back road and then is all on country tracks, many of them uphill but with quite a long climb in the early stages,(about ten/fifteen minutes) up some scree, and is quite steep in places, but after that the paths are good and there is a gentle descent, along with some lovely views....if It's too hot, we''ll take the shady alternative!

Duration : last time 2h 40m.....10.2km, 332m ascent, according to Colin, which sounds & felt about right....if we don't take a short cut!

If peoplewant to stay for lunch, then the cafe has been tried and recommended : menu and size is limited but they do a good grilled meat or fish prata de dia. Optional lunch price is 8.5€ for chicken/pork/Carapau/chicken with chick peas but 12.5€ for Dorada......but please note new lunch price policy at viewtopic.php?f=39&t=27800 so , as no one will have any change, cost will be 10€ for chicken/pork etc and 15€ for dorada. We will need to order before the walk.

Whether I lunch is dependent on getting a lift. Volunteers please?

Degree of Difficulty ( scale 1:5 ) : the steep climb makes that part a grade 4 ( strenuous) but the rest is overall grade 2 or 2.5.

Start: 0930 as its summer .....but please arrive by 0915 if you want a coffee!

Directions : drive from Carvoeiro to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 3.2 kms until you see Cafe Casa de Pasto a Norinho on your left : park in layby opposite.

GPS : 37°12'20.6"N, 8°24'38.0"W
37.2057131N 8.4116553,312W

It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come and whether you want lunch, as numbers will be limited to 10.....I know the restrictions don't start till the next day, but I think a limit of 10 would be prudent. Thank you.

Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.

Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.

Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am .

It's been a long time since we only had 6 on a walk...now the legal max in England! But a relatively cool 28C as we set off on a slightly reduced Enxerim walk....no steep hills, no loop at top. But the bulldozers had been active:

L to R : Marian, Sue, Ken, Paul, Richard

Sue left her walking pole at the ruined farmhouse, and Ken gallantly went back for it...the rest of us noted the peppers and bananas:

though it all looked a bit overgrown.

But this is what we had been waiting for.....

Luis was disappointed we weren't eating, especially as he had just bought a load of pork...

5.9miles, 10km, 2 h 15 mins....a creditable rate bearing in mind it grew hotter.

Paul had to show off his new transport...
