Walk 21September 2020: Casinhas/Sua Vide. CLOSED
Walk 21September 2020: Casinhas/Sua Vide. CLOSED
Walk is now closed as we are only allowed 10.
Assuming it's not too hot, we'll revisit this. I haven't done it since May 2018 , so hope I can remember it, though others have led here since.
I won't be having lunch...that is, even if Casinhas is open.
Track is fairly undulating, nothing (too!) steep, with minimal loose scree. The final descent is a bit steep. Lovely countryside, plenty of orange groves, nice views from the top.
It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come and whether you want lunch, as numbers will be limited to 10 due to covid restrictions. Thank you.
Degree of difficulty : 2 (Moderate) but 3 ( Energetic) for one hill climb of about 100m.
Duration about 2 hours 15 mins.
Meet at Cafe " O cafe de Sua Vide" .
Start : 0930....as it's warm....but please arrive by 0915 if you want a coffee!
Directions:
From CVO, drive to Silves and go over bridge, turn right.
At the roundabout, follow the N124 in direction of Messines.
After about 400m, almost opposite the Galp petrol station on your left, turn right on to " Turismo Rural".
Follow this for about 2.5 kms, when you will see the Cafe Casinhas on your right.
As the Casinhas is closed however, drive on another 500m and park on right. There is a small cafe on the left called " o cafe de Sua Vide" but it's difficult to see the name : however, it is the only one.
Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am .

I did a recce today to refresh my mind, which was just as well as a local farmer stopped me going down his track that I used as a short cut : I realised later that there was a new bolted gate blocking the other end! As a consequence, there is a 7 minute walk along the road at the beginning and end from the cafe.
If people don't want a coffee at start, they may prefer to start from Casinhas restaurant. We would be there at 0937 !
Having said that, the cafe does the best coffee I have had for a long while, and only 80c.
Rest of walk all ok, though one of the tracks is now tarmaced and an old shed is now a new house : amazing what changes in 2 years.
Casinhas is open ( from 1100) , for lunches, but i shall forego lunch. Beer at the cafe is 1€ for a large superbock.
See you monday.....time was about 2 h 15mins from cafe...it would be 2 hours from Cassinhas.

The early auspices weren't too good, cloudy and barely over 20C , and I was thinking we should have started at our normal time of 1000...in fact that what Colin thought it was! Matters weren't helped by the cafe being shut, with the locals explaining that madame had taken the children to school and wouldn't be 5 minutes.....20 minutes later with no coffee, we thought we had better go.
Anyway, sun came out, flowers blossomed...and ( an almost) socially distanced group photo...
and we had a good walk....almost 2,5 hours, 7 miles according to Richard, about 11.6km. anyway, the beer tasted good for the 8 that stayed, with Richard perhaps thinking of a trip to San Francisco...
Thanks to all...see you in October.
