WALK - MONDAY 12 OCTOBER - ODELOUCA CLOSED

Post by Linda and Russell »

The walk will start from Restaurant Ourique, near the village of Odelouca. There is a very steep uphill stretch up to the ridge where we can enjoy nice views of the hills and river and a few ups and downs on uneven ground. WE WALK CLOSE TO SOME ACTIVE BEE HIVES, WHICH CANNOT BE AVOIDED. The rest of the walk is fairly flat and we can enjoy the wildlife on the Odelouca river. The walk is only 8kms but is a grade 4 (energetic) due to the steep hill. The usual rules apply, wear suitable clothing and footwear, bring a drink, walking poles if you have them, no charge, walk at your own risk.
Meeting Time: 10:00am. Meeting Point: Restaurant Ourique. Directions: Leave the N125 at the Portimao/Monchique exit and follow the N124 directions Monchique/Silves. At the roundabouts keep right and follow the signs for Silves. The restaurant is on the right side of the road on a sharp bend before Odelouca. Please park just before the restaurant. The restaurant doesnt open for coffee until 10am but we can start the walk at 10.15am if walkers need a coffee rush. They also do a set meal within our 10 euros budget, including tip etc.

Numbers have to be limited to 10 both for the walk and lunch (due to CV19 restrictions). Therefore only 8 more places available, it is first come first served.

Linda and Russell will be guiding this walk and the contact number on the day is: 0044 796 0552618. Please indicate below if you would like to join the walk and also if you would like to stay for lunch. Thank you.

Hi Linda, Russel
Steve and I for the walk. Dawn and John asked me to add them too. I’m sure they’ll let you know if they want lunch or not
Thanks
Wendy

Is it right that someone can group book as surely this by passes Geoff’s rules?

This is Linda & Russel's walk George...they can have their own rules & Linda said "it is first come first served".....must say, it is one of the reasons why I chose seniority as the criteria for my walks for inclusion, so as to avoid such group bookings!

Sorry no photos this week as the camera went wrong. 10 walkers and 4 dogs enjoyed the lovely views down to the river and into the hills. The path along the ridge is very overgrown now as the path has changed as the electricity board have moved their fence and they are installing solar panels on the other side of the fence. We also had an incident by the river as Keesha fell into the water and struggled to get back up the steep embankment. Luckily the guys managed to drag her back up. Seven of us enjoyed a very nice al-fresco lunch after at Ourique restaurant.
