WALK - MONDAY 28 DECEMBER 2020- BARRAGEM ARADE

Post by Linda and Russell »

Wendy and Steve will be leading this walk around the Barragem. The walk is just short of 10 km. There is one long slow up, one down, the rest is flattish and on part of the Algarve way. There is one water crossing/jump round and you may need plastic bags for the feet if we have heavy rain the day before. There are nice views of the Barragem in places. The walk is limited to 10 people in 2 x groups of 5. The usual rules apply: bring a drink, wear suitable footwear, no charge and please respect social distancing.

Start time: 10am. Meeting point: Car park at the Barragem Arade GPS 37.239339 8.377420.
Directions: Drive to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right, follow the N124 for about 7kms until you see a turning on the left signposted "Barragem Do Arade 3kms". The signpost is in a small triangular traffic island which has a large palm tree on it. Drive in the direction of the Barragem for about 1km. You pass cafe A Rainha on the left, the road continues round to the left. Take a further sign for the Barragem on the left. As you approach the Barragem there is a roundabout, go left on the roundabout and parking is immediately on the left.

There is no cafe at the start of the walk but for those wishing to stay for lunch we can drive to Silves and try the famous cafe Churrasqueira Valdemar which is know as "Chicken in the gutter". The all inclusive menu usually costs around 10 euros.

Please indicate below if you will be joining us for the walk and if you wish to stay for lunch after as we will need to reserve places at the cafe. Contact on the day is Linda on 0044 7960552618.

as we will need to reserve places at the cafe.
Be interested to know if you can do this...you always had to queue in the past as they wouldn't take reservations : are they still in the car park, or have they moved back to the market?

Thank you to Wendy and Steve for finding this walk and to Wendy for guiding us round today. We enjoyed the lovely views down to the Baragem and it was nice to see water in there for a change. Six of us enjoyed a very nice meal after the walk at "Chicken in the Gutter". Which is temporarily based in the car park in Silves whilst the old market is refurbished.
