Walk Tuesday 3 May 2022: Norinho/Sives Windmill

Post by Geoff »

It's flat along the lavada to start, has 5 minutes of back road and then is all on country tracks, many of them uphill but with quite a climb up to the windmill, but after that the paths are good and there is a gentle descent, along with some lovely views.

Duration : about 2.5 hours

Optional Lunch : prices have gone up, last time it was 10€ for main/wine/coffee with an extra 2€ for pudding.

Degree of Difficulty ( scale 1:5 ) : probably grade 3

Start: 10.00 .....but please arrive by 0945 if you want a coffee/order lunch.

Directions : drive from Carvoeiro to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 3.2 kms until you see Cafe Casa de Pasto a Norinho on your left : park in layby opposite.

GPS : 37°12'20.6"N, 8°24'38.0"W
37.2057131N 8.4116553,312W

It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come and whether you want lunch, as numbers for walk will be limited to 20

Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.

Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.

Any questions , please ask (or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am ...but not before 27 April).

I forgot to add....there could be 3 water crossings, depending on recent rain....none is usually very deep and easily fordable on the stepping stones, but I will check them out beforehand.

Depending on which weather forecast you look at, it will either be OK tomorrow morning or perhaps some light rain. Perhaps best to bring some light rainwear , just in case...

Weather was fine, flowers in full bloom and grass was high...but Jen was stuck in traffic....

We had a bit of a lazy walk, we bypassed the first farmhouse and easily crossed the Enxerim:

The path up was a bit narrow in places, but all made it, but opted out of the last section up to the windmilll itself. In fact, not all made it up to the second farmhouse ( picture by Karen)...guess who?

So back down :

and off to Luis for a cold sagres and a good lunch (12€):

Just under 11km I believe, just over 2,5 hours.
